About the Role
Position Summary
The Human Resources Director is responsible for overseeing all aspects of human resources operations for a private country club, supporting a diverse workforce across departments including Food & Beverage, Golf, Racquets, Grounds, Housekeeping, Facilities, Administration, and Club Operations. This position serves as a strategic partner to club leadership while ensuring compliance with federal and state employment laws, maintaining employee relations, supporting recruitment and retention, and fostering a positive and professional workplace culture.
Essential Responsibilities
Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Human Resources department.
Develop, implement, and maintain HR policies, procedures, and employee programs.
Partner with the General Manager and department heads on employee-related matters and organizational needs.
Manage the full employee lifecycle, including recruitment, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, transfers, promotions, disciplinary actions, and terminations.
Coordinate new-hire orientation and ensure employees receive appropriate training and documentation.
Maintain accurate and confidential personnel records and ensure compliance with applicable employment laws.
Manage payroll processes, timekeeping, employee schedules, and payroll-related issues.
Administer employee benefits, including medical, dental and vision.
Coordinate annual benefits enrollment and communicate benefit changes to employees.
Manage workers' compensation claims, unemployment claims, employment verifications, and other employment-related matters.
Advise managers and supervisors on employee relations, performance management, disciplinary actions, workplace concerns, and policy interpretation.
Investigate employee complaints, workplace conflicts, harassment concerns, and other employee relations matters while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
Ensure consistent application of company policies and promote accountability across all departments.
Monitor compliance with federal, state, and local employment regulations, including wage and hour, FMLA, ADA, FLSA, OSHA, EEO, and other applicable requirements.
Maintain and update the employee handbook and HR policies as necessary.
Assist leadership with performance review processes, employee development, succession planning, and career development initiatives.
Develop employee engagement, recognition, appreciation, and retention programs.
Organize employee events, recognition programs, and communication initiatives designed to strengthen morale and workplace culture.
Prepare employee communications, newsletters, announcements, and HR-related materials.
Track HR metrics and provide leadership with reports and recommendations regarding turnover, staffing, payroll, benefits, employee relations, and other workforce trends.
Manage relationships with outside HR vendors, benefits brokers, insurance providers, payroll providers, and other business partners.
Maintain knowledge of club-specific employment practices and the unique staffing needs associated with seasonal, hospitality, golf, and club operations.
Support department heads with staffing plans and recruitment strategies, particularly during peak club seasons.
Promote a professional, respectful, inclusive, and service-oriented workplace culture.
Maintain strict confidentiality regarding employee information, compensation, investigations, and other sensitive HR matters.
Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the General Manager or senior leadership.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
5+ years of progressive HR experience, with management-level experience preferred.
Experience in hospitality, private clubs, country clubs, restaurants, or other service-oriented environments preferred.
Strong knowledge of federal and state employment laws and HR best practices.
Experience with payroll, benefits administration, employee relations, recruiting, and performance management.
Excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to handle confidential and sensitive matters with professionalism and discretion.
Ability to work independently while partnering effectively with senior leadership and department managers.
Strong computer skills and experience with payroll, benefits, and timekeeping systems.
