About First Tee – West Texas
First Tee – West Texas is a youth development nonprofit serving 430+ young people on our 70-acre, 9-hole learning facility and 22,000+ students through school-based programming across Midland, Ector, and Crane counties. We use the game of golf to teach life skills, build character, and create Game Changers. Our facility is the practice home for Midland High School and Legacy High School golf teams — which means the condition of our course reflects directly on the young people we serve.
We are looking for a dependable, hardworking Golf Course Maintenance Worker to join our grounds crew full-time. Working closely with the Course Superintendent, you will maintain the playing surfaces, practice areas, and surrounding grounds of our facility — ensuring exceptional conditions for the youth and families we serve every day.
Key Responsibilities
Mow, roll, and hand-water greens to maintain optimal playing surfacesMow fairways, rough areas, and all turf on the propertyChange pin locations and set up course markers dailyOperate a ball picker and replenish range ball supply as neededWeed-eat around course features, paths, and bordersFill divots and assist with sand bunker maintenanceSupport the fertility and turf management program under Superintendent directionRemove trash and debris from the course and facility groundsPerform routine equipment cleaning and basic maintenance checksComplete any additional maintenance tasks assigned by the SuperintendentQualifications
Required
High school diploma or equivalentValid Texas driver’s license and reliable transportationAbility to operate groundskeeping and turf equipment safelyComfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions, including West Texas heatAbility to lift and carry up to 75 lbs and perform sustained physical laborDependable, punctual, and able to follow a daily task scheduleAbility to communicate clearly with team members and, when needed, golfers or guestsPreferred (not required)
Prior experience in golf course, landscaping, or groundskeeping maintenanceFamiliarity with turf management, irrigation systems, or fertility programsExperience identifying and treating common turf diseases or pest issuesExperience with riding mowers, reel mowers, sprayers, or chainsawsWork Environment & Physical Demands
This is an outdoor, physically active role. The employee will regularly work in variable weather conditions including sun, wind, and rain. The role involves extended periods of walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, and operating powered equipment. Exposure to noise, mechanical parts, turf chemicals, and vibration is expected. Specific vision requirements include close, distance, and color vision.
