Assistant Golf Course Superintendent

Overview Oversees the maintenance and construction of the golf course (or courses) and ensures that turf grass is repaired and maintained to established standards. Experience Required Bachelors degree, Associate's degree (AA) or equivalent from four- or two-year college or technical school; or equivalent combination of education and experience.Preferred degree focus in agronomy, horticulture, plant science, or soil science.Three to four years related experience and/or training.Valid Driver's License required.Pesticide Application License required.Ability to read and speak English required.Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.Regularly lifts up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds.Frequently works in outdoor weather conditions and occasionally near moving mechanical parts, fumes, and/or airborne particles. Essential Responsibilities Work with the Superintendent to ensure that the annual golf course maintenance budget and capital plans are maintained and followed.Supervise and assist maintenance staff in daily duties.Assist in planning, organizing, and directing the maintenance and construction of putting greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and bunkers.Supervise the planting and cultural practices involved in growing various turf grasses, trees, and ornamental plants.Ensure that construction equipment is properly maintained.Assist in the procurement of supplies and materials and ensure costs remain within budgetary limitations.Keep records of annual maintenance activities and costs and assist with preparation of required reports.Follow sound purchasing procedures utilizing preferred vendors when possible.Reconcile and provide timely coding of all invoices, payroll, and other required documents.Coordinate snow removal depending upon facility location.Ensure all company policies and procedures are followed, including compliance with government regulations.Ensure associates obtain proper licenses needed to perform job tasks safely and within city, state, and federal regulations, and address environmental concerns.Manage department members including Mechanic, Environmental Technician, Equipment Operator, Foreman, Greenskeeper, and Irrigation Technician.Assure effective orientation and training for each new associate and develop ongoing training programs.Monitor business volume forecast and plan accordingly in areas of manpower, productivity, costs, and other expenses.Maintain regular and reliable attendance.Incorporate safe work practices in job performance.
