Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management
Applications and nominations are currently being accepted for the position of Golf Coach and Lecturer in the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTM) in the School of Business and Technology at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. The position is a twelve-month non-tenure track appointment and reports jointly to the UMES Director of Athletics and the Chairperson of the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management.
The Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management is one of five departments in the School of Business and Technology. The HTM department offers an undergraduate degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management which is housed in the Richard Henson Conference Center featuring hotel guestrooms, banquet service and production facilities, as well as specialized laboratories, classrooms, and faculty offices. In addition to offering an HTM program at the Princess Anne location, the department also offers upper-division hospitality & tourism management courses at the Universities at Shady Grove in Rockville as well as at the University System of Maryland at Hagerstown, where students take lower-division level HTM courses and all upper-division HTM courses required for the degree. The HTM Department also administratively houses the Bachelor of Science in PGA Golf Management(PGM). Responsibilities Lecturer Responsibilities:Hospitality and Tourism Management The position requires undergraduate duties in hospitality & tourism management subject areas including:Designing teaching material and delivering across a range of learning modalities.Using appropriate teaching, learning support and assessment methods Supervising student projects, and/or e.g. field trips and, where appropriate, placements.Contributing to the planning, designing and developing of course objectives and material.Assessing work, examinations, and providing feedback to students.Performs other related duties as assigned. Golf Coach Responsibilities:
The golf coach will organize and direct all aspects of UMES NCAA Golf programs.Specific responsibilities include:Identifying and recruiting athletically and academically qualified student-athletes.Scheduling and conducting regular practice sessions; developing, implementing, and enforcing team rules.Overseeing the administrative process for team travel, budget, student-athlete eligibility and academic progress.Participating in fundraising and public relations activities.Promoting the philosophy and objectives of the Intercollegiate Athletics program that student-athletes should be successful athletically and academically.Knowledge of and commitment to compliance with all NCAA, Conference and University rules and regulations as well as dedication to the full academic development of student-athletes are essential.Performs other related duties as assigned. Classification 25- Education, Training, and Library Occupations Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent. Note: Individuals with degrees outside of the US may be subject to verification. Verification of degree is the responsibility of the candidate.Demonstrated experience or knowledge of facets of face-to-face instruction.Demonstrated knowledge or experience working with golf team engagement and support. Preferred Qualifications Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Excellence in teaching and a commitment to mentoring.Effective communication skills including written communication.Strong interpersonal skills.
