About the Role
Assistant Golf Course Superintendent – McInnis Park Golf Center
McInnis Park Golf Center is looking for a motivated and experienced turf professional to join our team as Assistant Golf Course Superintendent. In this role, you'll work closely with our Golf Course Superintendent to keep our course in outstanding condition while leading a dedicated maintenance crew and upholding our commitment to environmental stewardship.
What You'll Do
Course & Grounds Management
Support day-to-day golf course maintenance operations, helping set and meet quality and production standards
Plan and oversee landscaping and horticultural operations across the property, including gardens, pathways, water features, and non-play areas
Implement multi-season garden and crop production plans to support on-site culinary goals
Perform horticultural and agronomic tests and evaluations as needed
Team Leadership
Supervise and mentor maintenance staff, managing scheduling, training, and performance
Conduct safety orientations for all new Golf Maintenance employees before they begin work
Lead regular departmental meetings, including annual reviews
Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and high morale
Administration & Budgeting
Coordinate with superintendent and operations team to fulfill departmental needs
Maintain timely records including purchase orders, invoices, and employee timecards
Assist in preparing annual operating and capital expenditure budgets
Monitor expenditures to stay within budget while meeting operational standards
Guest Experience & Compliance
Respond to guest requests in a timely and professional manner
Ensure compliance with all McInnis Park Golf Center policies and applicable regulations (OSHA, SB198, local health codes, and hazardous materials laws)
Report suspicious activity or hazardous conditions immediately
Maintain clean, safe work areas at all times
What We're Looking For
Experience & Knowledge
Minimum 2 years of golf course maintenance experience
Strong knowledge of turf varieties, cultural practices, and course upkeep
Familiarity with pesticide application, fertilizers, and soil chemistry
Ability to identify common turf diseases, insects, and weeds
California Qualified Applicator's License preferred, or ability to obtain one.
Working knowledge of the rules of golf, players preferred.
English fluency required; Spanish fluency a strong plus
A valid driver’s license

Physical Requirements
On your feet approximately 90% of the shift; desk/meeting time roughly 10%
Ability to lift and move objects up to 80 lbs. over short distances
Comfortable with bending, stooping, reaching, and operating power-driven machinery
Able to work outdoors in prolonged sun exposure and adapt to long or irregular hours
Ability to work in various environments, including prolonged heat, rain and wind.
