About the Role
POSITION OVERVIEW
The primary role of the Superintendent, under the direction of the Director of Agronomy, is the oversight of golf course maintenance and related facilities at Sensei Porcupine Creek. This position manages golf course maintenance staff and is responsible for interviewing, hiring, training, leading the team, and performance management. The Superintendent oversees golf course maintenance, making necessary recommendations and decisions to make to ensure optimal course conditions prevail year-round.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- Schedule and plan irrigation systems, pesticide applications, related recordings, and compliance with regulatory issues.
- Work closely with, advise, and coordinate with the Director of Agronomy & Landscape on any issues related to golf course maintenance and landscape operations
- Provide technical, operational and safety training for employees to ensure that staff is working within OSHA, safety, state and federal guidelines for safe working conditions
- Train and oversee staff in proper and safe operation and maintenance of mechanical and power equipment
- Hire, train, supervise and motive staff
- Schedule, and monitor daily operations, including work assignments and oversight of project completion
- Make recommendations regarding agronomic planning
- Oversee employee relations within the department including performance reviews and corrective actions
- Maintain purchase order system and efficient invoice processes
- Accountable for the departmental operating budget, monitor, and control departmental operating budget
- Maintain daily logs & reports to track agronomic systems data, climate predictions, and chemical and pesticide application
- Maintain knowledge of all technology platforms and applications required for proper maintenance of facilities and grounds
- Maintain and monitor execution and follow-through of agreed upon daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly communication meetings and resulting actions items and initiatives
- Maintain a strong unwavering commitment to ensure employees are well cared for in their daily work and that wellbeing activities and opportunities for growth are provided
- Any and all related duties as assigned by the Director of Agronomy & Landscape
- Ensure standard operating practices (SOPs) are in place and regularly updated
- Lead by example with the ability to mentor, inspire, empathize and establish and communicate clear expectations
- Special projects or other duties as assigned

- Due to the intimate nature of the resort with limited number of guests on property, must assist teams laterally across all departments to lead a seamless guest flow throughout the different resort spaces.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience
- Experience as a Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent preferable
- Working knowledge of golf course operations, turf management, fertilizer and chemical application, water management, golf course renovation, irrigation and drainage
- Experience In employee management
- Ability to communicate effectively, lead and motivate a team
- Extensive knowledge of use and operation of all equipment and tools used in golf course and landscaping construction and maintenance
- Knowledge and understanding of the game of golf, golf rules and methods of play
- Strong organizational, computer and leadership skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Required Technical / Other Skills and Abilities
- Degree in Agronomy, Turf Management or related field, or equivalent
Required Licenses/Certifications
- California Department of Pesticide Regulation QAC or QAL or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
- Must possess a valid California driver’s license and maintain a clean DMV record
