Golf Course Grounds Staff

Broadmoor is seeking to fill Full Time and Seasonal positions. Summary: The Grounds Staff contributes to fulfilling the Broadmoor Strategic Vision “to be the first choice in the greater Indianapolis area for its classic Donald Ross golf course, broad range of family-friendly amenities, opportunities to build social relationships, and vibrant and engaged membership” through exemplary grounds and course maintenance activities, often supervising the work of others. Evaluation of Performance: Performance will be evaluated based fulfilling all requirements of this position; working according to all Broadmoor established policies and procedures; working as a team member with all other Broadmoor staff; and interacting positively with members, board members, Club members, prospective members, and all events conducted with the Club. Key Outcomes Expected: Grounds Maintenance The primary responsibilities of the Golf Course Grounds Staff include being responsible for assisting with the daily care, preparation, and presentation of the golf course and related club grounds. The Golf Course Grounds Staff plays an important role in maintaining quality playing conditions, course cleanliness, turf appearance, and the overall member and guest experience. This is a hands-on, non-supervisory position that supports the Golf Course Superintendent and Assistant Golf Course Superintendent with daily golf course maintenance assignments. . Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: · Perform daily golf course maintenance tasks as assigned by the Golf Course Superintendent or Assistant Golf Course Superintendent. · Mow greens, tees, fairways, approaches, roughs, and other turf areas using walk-behind and riding equipment. · Assist with daily course setup, including changing cups, moving tee markers, filling divots, servicing ball washers, emptying trash, and preparing the course for member and guest play. · Rake, edge, maintain, and detail bunkers to club standards. · Operate utility vehicles, string trimmers, backpack blowers, push mowers, bunker rakes, and other golf course maintenance equipment in a safe and responsible manner. · Assist with hand watering, irrigation checks, and reporting dry areas, wet areas, leaks, or irrigation concerns to supervisors. · Monitor and report visible course issues such as damaged turf, disease pressure, drainage concerns, pest activity, unsafe conditions, or equipment problems. · Assist with cultural practices such as aerification, topdressing, seeding, sodding, edging, verticutting, and other turf maintenance programs as directed. · Perform general landscaping duties including mulching, planting, pruning, weeding, edging, leaf removal, and care of ornamental beds around the golf course and clubhouse grounds. · Remove debris, sticks, leaves, trash, and other materials from the golf course, cart paths, practice facilities, and maintenance areas. Critical skills, knowledge and behaviors · Ability to safely operate, or learn to operate, golf course maintenance equipment. · Strong attention to detail and pride in quality work. · Dependable, punctual, and able to follow directions. · Ability to work independently and as part of a team. · Willingness to work early mornings, weekends, holidays, and during the peak golf season as scheduled. · Ability to communicate course conditions, equipment concerns, or safety issues to supervisors. · Valid driver’s license preferred. · Takes initiative and needs little supervision. · Proactive in anticipating and alerting others to problems with projects or processes. Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal skills. Can effectively communicate with a variety of individuals with diverse backgrounds, education, and economic levels and roles both with external and internal others. Able to communicate effectively and professionally. Able to work well in a team environment and as part of a team. Experience, education, degrees, and licenses. Valid Driver’s License Degree in turf management or related field preferred Indiana 3B Applicator License or ability to obtain one in 60 days 5+ years of golf course experience Supervisory experience preferred. Physical Requirements While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to operate mowing and other machinery, including climbing off and on a mower, bouncing with the mowers, etc. Work will be performed primarily outdoors. This position may be seasonal or year-round depending on club needs. The work schedule will include early mornings and may include weekends and holidays. Hours may vary based on weather, golf course conditions, tournaments, and seasonal maintenance needs. Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is highly variable, although the average noise level is moderate, the range would vary from quiet to loud.
