About the Role

Ventura Country Club Community HOA is a gated, self-managed community consisting of more than 1,700 homes and condominiums. The community features an 18-hole semi-private golf course designed by Mark Mahannah, a clubhouse with banquet and meeting facilities, and the 19th Hole Restaurant, which includes a bar, dining room, full-service kitchen, and beverage cart operations. Ventura Country Club is seeking an experienced, hands-on Food & Beverage Manager to oversee all aspects of its food and beverage operations, including restaurant, kitchen, bar, beverage cart, banquet, and special-event operations. The Food & Beverage Manager reports directly to the General Manager and serves as a member of the senior management team, working collaboratively with Golf Operations, Golf Course Maintenance, Accounting, Human Resources, Administration, and other departments. This position is responsible for ensuring that all food and beverage operations achieve established financial objectives while providing exceptional service to residents, members, golfers, guests, and event clients in accordance with the standards established by the General Manager and Board of Directors. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Restaurant and Food & Beverage Operations Direct and oversee the daily operations of the 19th Hole Restaurant, bar, kitchen, beverage cart, banquets, and special events. Establish and maintain performance and service standards for all positions within the Food & Beverage Department. Recruit, train, supervise, motivate, and evaluate food and beverage employees. Prepare employee schedules based on anticipated business levels, events, seasonal fluctuations, and approved labor budgets. Monitor service levels by interacting regularly with residents, members, golfers, guests, and event clients. Address guest concerns and service issues professionally and promptly, ensuring appropriate corrective action is taken. Maintain consistent standards for food quality, beverage service, presentation, cleanliness, sanitation, and overall guest experience. Ensure effective communication and coordination between front-of-house, back-of-house, banquet, beverage cart, and management staff. Maintain adequate staffing levels and assist operationally when necessary. This is a hands-on management position. Banquet and Event Sales and Operations Oversee all banquet, meeting, private-party, tournament, and special-event operations from the initial inquiry through the completion of the event. Manage event inquiries, tours, proposals, contracts, deposits, menu selections, event details, final billing, and post-event follow-up. Develop banquet menus, packages, and pricing that meet client expectations while achieving established food-cost, labor-cost, and profitability targets. Maintain an accurate banquet and event calendar and ensure event information is communicated to all applicable departments. Prepare and distribute banquet event orders containing complete information regarding menus, timelines, room layouts, staffing, equipment, billing, and special requests. Coordinate with clients, culinary staff, service staff, maintenance, administration, golf operations, and outside vendors to ensure successful event execution. Oversee event setup, staffing, food and beverage service, room appearance, breakdown, and cleanup. Conduct pre-event meetings with employees when necessary to confirm responsibilities, service expectations, and event timelines. Ensure banquet and meeting spaces are properly prepared, maintained, and presented according to established standards. Monitor event execution and remain available to address client needs or operational issues. Actively promote Ventura Country Club’s banquet and meeting facilities to increase bookings, revenue, repeat business, and referrals. Financial Management and Cost Controls Achieve budgeted revenue and expense goals and maximize the profitability of the Food & Beverage Department. Monitor and control food costs, beverage costs, labor costs, operating supplies, waste, discounts, voids, and complimentary items. Develop short-term and long-term financial and operational plans that support the overall goals of Ventura Country Club. Participate in the preparation and administration of the annual food and beverage budget. Review financial and operational reports and take corrective action when performance falls outside established goals. Maintain effective inventory-control procedures for food, beverages, liquor, beer, wine, supplies, and equipment. Oversee purchasing, receiving, storage, and inventory processes and maintain appropriate vendor relationships. Ensure appropriate procedures are followed for cash handling, credit-card transactions, deposits, discounts, voids, and the security of Association funds. Sales, Marketing, and Menu Development Develop and implement sales and marketing programs for the restaurant, bar, beverage cart, banquets, tournaments, and special events. Create and modify menu offerings that meet the expectations of Ventura residents, members, golfers, and guests while maintaining appropriate cost and profitability standards. Develop promotions, themed events, dining specials, and other programs designed to increase participation and revenue. Evaluate menu performance, pricing, purchasing trends, and customer feedback and recommend adjustments as needed. Human Resources and Compliance Follow and enforce all established Human Resources policies and procedures. Document employee performance, attendance, training, coaching, and disciplinary matters in coordination with the General Manager and Human Resources. Ensure the Food & Beverage Department complies with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Maintain compliance with food-safety, sanitation, workplace-safety, alcohol-service, and licensing requirements. Conduct regular employee training related to service standards, food safety, alcohol service, workplace conduct, and departmental procedures. Perform other duties and projects assigned by the General Manager. QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS Minimum of five years of food and beverage management experience preferred, ideally within a country club, golf course, resort, hotel, restaurant, or similar hospitality environment. Experience managing restaurant, bar, kitchen, beverage cart, banquet, and special-event operations. Proven experience in banquet and event sales, planning, pricing, staffing, and execution. Demonstrated ability to lead, train, motivate, and hold employees accountable while promoting a positive and professional work environment. Strong knowledge of food and beverage cost controls, inventory management, purchasing, budgeting, and financial reporting. Ability to control labor costs without negatively affecting service quality. Ability to adjust staffing and operations based on seasonal business fluctuations, weather conditions, golf activity, banquet bookings, and special events. Ability to create and modify restaurant and banquet menu offerings that meet customer expectations and financial objectives. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple operational priorities and events simultaneously. Excellent attention to detail, follow-through, and problem-solving skills. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both verbally and in writing. Ability to interact with residents, members, guests, employees, vendors, and event clients with tact, diplomacy, and professionalism. Proficiency with point-of-sale, event-management, scheduling, and Microsoft Office programs. Experience with Jonas or Clubessential systems is preferred. Current ServSafe Manager certification or the ability to obtain certification within a designated period following hire. Knowledge of applicable food safety, sanitation, alcohol-service, employment, and workplace-safety regulations. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on operational and event needs. Ability to move throughout all food and beverage and event areas and perform essential job duties, including assisting operationally when necessary. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check and drug screening.
