Golf course in Detroit, Michigan is looking for a 1st Assistant Golf Course Superintendent.
Position Overview:
Plays a vital role in leading day-to-day golf course operations, working closely with the Director of Agronomy and the North and South Course Superintendents. This position is designed for an experienced turf professional who is eager to expand their leadership skills, deepen their agronomic knowledge, and prepare for a Superintendent role in the near future.
Key Responsibilities:
• Supervise, train, and motivate the turf team to perform at the highest level.
• Promote a positive team culture while setting clear performance standards.
• Provide mentorship to developing staff members.
• Oversee all chemical and fertilizer applications with precision and environmental responsibility.
• Maintain accurate, detailed application records.
• Collaborate with leadership to set daily, weekly, and seasonal agronomic goals.
• Assist in developing and managing annual operating budgets and agronomic programs.
• Play an integral role in course set-up, scheduling, and volunteer management for the Rocket Mortgage Classic.
• Work closely with PGA TOUR agronomy teams to ensure tournament readiness.
• Participate in and oversee construction, renovation, and capital improvement projects.
• Manage daily task scheduling and ensure efficient use of labor and resources.
Requirements:
Degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management or related field required.
Prior golf course experience: management-level experience strongly preferred.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and direct diverse teams.
Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
Commitment to advancing personal and professional development within the turfgrass industry.
Compensation:
$65,000 – $75,000 per year.
