About the Role
Golf Course Maintenance Staff play an important role in the upkeep, appearance, and daily preparation of Shanty Creek’s golf courses. This position supports the Golf Course Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, and golf course maintenance team in maintaining high-quality playing conditions and a clean, professional course environment for our guests.
This role includes both equipment operation and hands-on golf course maintenance. While mowing and operating turf equipment may be part of the job, this position also includes string trimming, push mowing, divot filling, bunker raking, debris removal, course setup, landscaping support, and other assigned maintenance tasks.
The ideal candidate enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in detailed work, and understands that maintaining a golf course requires teamwork across many different tasks each day.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Must be at least 18 years old
Valid driver’s license required
Ability to safely operate grounds maintenance equipment, including mowers, trimmers, blowers, utility carts, and related tools
Ability to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled
Ability to perform physical work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
Qualifications
Previous experience in golf course, park, landscaping, grounds, or turf maintenance
Familiarity with reel mowers, rotary mowers, walk-behind mowers, trimmers, blowers, utility vehicles, and other turf care equipment
Basic understanding of golf course layout, course etiquette, and daily course maintenance practices
Interest in turf care, landscaping, golf course operations, or outdoor maintenance work
Responsibilities
Operate riding and walk-behind mowers to maintain greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and other course areas
Use trimmers, blowers, push mowers, utility vehicles, and hand tools to complete daily maintenance tasks
Rake and maintain bunkers, including sand movement, edging, cleanup, and detail work as assigned
Fill divots, repair ball marks, clean tee areas, move tee markers, and assist with general course setup
Support routine course cleanup, including debris removal, trash removal, branch pickup, and blowing high-traffic areas
Assist with landscaping, trimming, watering, and maintenance of course features and surrounding grounds
Help prepare the course for daily play, tournaments, outings, and special events
Follow daily work assignments and complete tasks in a timely, safe, and professional manner
Report mechanical issues, safety concerns, course damage, or hazards to supervisors promptly
Assist with equipment setup, fueling, cleaning, storage, and seasonal transitions
Maintain a clean and professional appearance while representing the golf course maintenance team
Follow all resort safety protocols, equipment handling procedures, and supervisor instructions
Perform other golf course maintenance duties as assigned
Skills and Abilities
Golf Course Maintenance Staff must demonstrate reliability, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining high course standards. This role requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team, follow direction, work efficiently, and adapt to changing daily priorities.
Physical stamina, situational awareness, safe equipment operation, and willingness to perform both equipment-based and hands-on maintenance work are essential. An appreciation for golf course presentation, course etiquette, and the guest experience is also important.
Work Environment
This position works primarily outdoors on the golf course and surrounding resort grounds. Work may take place in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, wind, and early morning conditions. Weekend and holiday availability is required based on business and course maintenance needs.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, lift, push, pull, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds as needed
Ability to operate riding equipment, walk-behind equipment, hand tools, and power tools safely
Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in a physically active role
