This opening is for a 1st Assistant Golf Professional at Oak Pointe Country Club in Brighton, MI.
Day-to
- Day you will oversee the daily operations of the golf department to ensure an exceptional experience for members and guests. This role is responsible for supervising all non-exempt golf staff and developing a collaborative, high-performing team. You will manage the pro-shop merchandising and daily pro-shop operations, outside services, and all golf-related activities while ensuring adherence to company policies and operational standards. The position plays a key role in enhancing member engagement and satisfaction through leadership and operational excellence.
You will:
- Train and lead golf and pro-shop attendants and outside services staff, implementing procedures that promote excellent customer service and prompt resolution of member concerns.
- Conduct performance evaluations for golf, pro-shop, and outside services staff, offering constructive feedback and making recommendations to management regarding compensation, career advancement, and training opportunities.
- Address personnel matters, determining appropriate actions such as counseling, written warnings, suspension, or termination in coordination with HR and management when performance, attendance, or policy violations occur.
- Develop and oversee work schedules to optimize staffing for golf operations, the pro-shop, outside services, and the club's repair business; recruit and hire qualified personnel to maintain high member service standards.
- Ensure cleanliness and organization of outside service areas, including staging zones, practice ranges, and golf cart storage, maintaining an exceptional environment for members and guests.
- Enforce company policies and operational standards, including safety protocols and conduct codes, and take timely action through intervention, investigation, and documentation of any violations.
- Oversee all golf operations—pro-shop, outside services, and practice facilities—to ensure efficient service delivery.
- Manage financial performance of pro-shop merchandise, including responsibility for profit and loss, budgeting, inventory control, and purchasing strategies.
- Optimize merchandising with appealing displays, competitive pricing, and targeted promotions while fulfilling member orders efficiently.
- Plan and execute club tournaments and special events, handling scheduling and logistics, and oversee the handicap program to ensure compliance and fairness.
- Build strong member relationships by promoting golf programs and participating in events, including playing golf to support player development.
- Guide staff to deliver programs aligned with Invited and PGA standards, ensuring successful clinics, private lessons, and age-specific programs for adults, juniors, and seniors.
- Provide leadership and oversight of the golf department in the absence of the Director of Golf/Head Golf Professional, maintaining operational excellence.
About you:
You must have a High school diploma, GED, or equivalent. Completion of PGA certification is highly preferred (minimum level 2). Strong customer service experience and extensive knowledge of golf fundamentals are important.
