The Opportunity
Golf Course Maintenance – Groundskeeper I
Who We Look For
The Groundskeeper I position covers all facets of the groundskeeper position with an expanded role concentrating on leadership, training, and communication. This position requires a positive attitude, strong work ethic, ability to work with and lead a crew as well as work alone, and willingness to want and learn all aspects of golf maintenance. They should have experience as a laborer with an appropriate and developing grasp of course conditioning requirements and the ability to achieve these requirements in the field. The Groundskeeper I position assists the course maintenance staff in day‑to‑day operations, performs daily course maintenance responsibilities, is the point of contact for course maintenance staff, incorporates safe work practices, acts as a crew leader when assigned and communicates with a clear understanding of expectations, provides feedback throughout projects, and adopts the “culture” of the department in behavior, work ethic, and appearance.
Responsibilities
Handle preventative maintenance of all equipment and update appropriate logs.
Lead the crew both on and off the golf course throughout the day.
Train new employees on every aspect of golf course maintenance.
Communicate with the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, and Equipment Technicians when any needs arise.
Maintain detailed cleanliness from the shop area to the golf course.
Ensure all tees and traffic stakes are properly placed at all times.
Clean the golf operations facility every afternoon.
Maintain equipment cleanliness.
Pick up all trash throughout the course every day.
Participate in resort work events as a willing participant.
Show flexibility in scheduling when needed.
Work with little to no supervision when required.
Supervise in the absence of management.
Exhibit leadership skills and keep open lines of communication with management.
Lead by example.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience and knowledge of turf management practices as related to golf courses.
Minimum of 5 years golf course maintenance experience and/or 2 years’ experience with a turf degree.
Experience with golf course equipment usage and safety.
At least three years of groundskeeping experience.
Clear understanding of golf maintenance operations.
Clear understanding of how to operate all machinery.
Ability to lift 80 lbs.
Work well with others and interact with guests and members on a limited basis.
Work in a wide range of environmental and physical conditions.
Listen to instructions and follow directions from supervisors.
A successful candidate will have a flexible schedule, ability to work weekends and holidays, be fluent in English, and possess legal work authorization in the United States.
