Job Summary (Essential Functions)
NorthStone is seeking a high-level first assistant who will be groomed to take over as course superintendent within three to six years. The ideal candidate will have a blend of knowledge and education combined with comparable experience at private clubs or high-end semi-private courses.
The turf care department maintains nearly 190 acres of the Club's 287 acres. The Club features Myers Zoysia tees, fairways, and approaches along with 419 Bermuda rough and Mini-Verde Bermuda greens. Under the direction of the Club's Director of Agronomy, this role will manage a crew of up to 18, including 10 year-round, full-time team members.
Compensation
$60,000 - $70,000 per year. Benefits include company phone, uniforms, paid professional association membership and education, medical, dental, vacation, sick time, and 401k. Vacation begins to accrue immediately and is available for use after 60 days of employment. Medical and dental is available after 60 days after employment. After 1 year of employment, 401k is available on January 1st or July 1st.
Job Knowledge, Core Competencies and Expectations
Strong desire to become superintendent within 3 to 6 years. Strong leadership skills, including the ability to manage veteran staff. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Create and implement annual fertility, herbicide, and fungicide programs for the golf course. Ability to analyze turf for disease or pests and create and implement remediation plans. Knowledge and experience with course irrigation systems, experience with Rainbird a plus. Ability to troubleshoot irrigation issues on the course and implement repairs. Identify and prioritize larger projects and develop and implement action plans. Requirements: Licenses and Special Requirements
Four-year turf or related degree preferred but an associate degree with appropriate experience will be considered. NC applicator license required or secured within 6 months of hire. Education and/or Experience
Four years’ experience as first assistant at a private club or high-end semi-private course. Strong computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office products. About the Club
NorthStone Country Club was founded in 1997 in Huntersville, NC. The Club features an 18-hole PB Dye golf course, complete practice facilities including the Spencer Golf Academy, 6 lighted tennis courts plus 4 lighted pickleball courts, a four-pool aquatic complex, and a 23,000 square foot clubhouse with indoor and outdoor dining, bar, pro shop, and 4000 square foot fitness center. The Club, which is privately owned by two partners, has more than 1200 members across all categories.
