West Sussex Golf Club - South East Managerial - Greenkeeper 1 October 2026 THE ROLE We are looking for an ambitious Course Manager for one of England's finest heathland courses. You will lead the greenkeeping team and own how the golf course plays, every day of the year, for members and for the visitors who travel a long way to see it. You will sit in the wider leadership team and bring the drive to keep pushing the course forward, making West Sussex as good as it can possibly be. About West Sussex Golf Club Laid on some of the purest sand in southern England in the middle of the Sussex clay, this par-68 masterpiece delivers one of the most thought-provoking and challenging rounds in British golf. The routing has barely been altered since Guy Campbell and Cecil Hutchison laid it out in 1931. The strategic brilliance has stood the test of time, and the heather, gorse, pine and birch make it an unforgettable place to work. THE CANDIDATE The role is hands-on. You will need to understand how a golf course works and how golfers think, and you will need to persuade people, as well as hold a position when you know you are right. We are looking for someone who wants to push standards in every area. Part of that is measurable, and it is where the course sits for example in the Golf World ranking. The rest is not measurable at all. It is what a visitor says on the way home, and it travels faster than any list. Both should improve on your watch. You will build and lead the greenkeeping team, working with minimal oversight from the Club Secretary and Course Chair. Prioritising several things at once against clear objectives is the job, not a complication of it. And the role should grow as the Club does. Experience 5–10 years' relevant experience — ideally in a similar role showing clear achievementsA good understanding of heathland / links golf course management is desirable Skills And Competencies A wealth of technical green-keeping and agronomy skills, together with impeccable standards of course preparation nurtured over many yearsFamiliarity with the workings of a members' owned golf clubThe ability and experience to handle different situations in a calm and positive mannerThe ability and experience to inspire a team of people, all with differing outlooks and ambitions, to achieve the objectives set by the ClubHigh standards of professionalism with strong, clear written and verbal communication skills, both internally and with third partiesA methodical approach, an eye for detail, and a commitment to delivering to the highest standard Remuneration An attractive salary package commensurate with experience and in line with BIGGA guidelines is on offer Application Process To apply, candidates should email a cover letter highlighting their motivation for the role and relevant experience, an up-to date CV, details of current remuneration, and ability to relocate if necessary.
