The Head Golf
Professional is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the golf course. This includes, but is not limited to, the golf shop operations, merchandise sales, tee sheet management, tournament planning and execution, instructional programs, guest services operations, and practice facility utilization. Works under moderate supervision and has a considerable level of discretion.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Duties and ResponsibilitiesPrimarily responsible for overseeing daily golf shop operations such as tee sheet management, phone reservation entry, general customer service, merchandise sales and attending to all related customer needs.Track and verify all players and guests, green fees, golf cars, club care, lockers, handicap fees, and other charges necessary, and facilitate accurate accounting and recordkeeping. Oversee the guest services team to include golf car fleet management, utilization, maintenance and repair, practice facility operations and the general cleanliness of the clubhouse and surrounding area. Manage golf shop merchandising program to include purchasing, meeting margin and sales projections, product rotation, marketing and promotions. Supervise and train all golf shop staff to maximize sales opportunities.Supervise physical inventories, present a diverse and desirable array of golf equipment, apparel, accessories.Develop budgets for golf shop operations, guest services operations, tournaments, and instructional programs. Responsible for the financial and operational performance of the golf shop operations and golf services.Ensure all financial goals and objectives are achieved.Establish accurate recordkeeping policies and procedures for all aspects of the golf operation.Oversee instructional programs, provide individual instruction, camps, and manage adult and youth clinics and programs promoting the game of golf within the community. Develop and oversee player development programs. Assist with hiring, supervising, and evaluating staff in golf shop and guest services division.Assist with the training of the full facility staff in regard to player development and encourage their participation.Develop public information and promotional events to encourage people to use the facilities and learn the game of golf in a friendly environment.Develop and manage an innovative tournament program, group outings, and leagues that service all customer segments.Administer the “Rules of Golf” and educate staff. Promote and provide “Rules of Golf” clinics to the golf course members. Develop, maintain, update, and utilize customer database.Ensure system controls are in place to safeguard assets, revenues, and resources.Utilize MS Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint and related offices software.

Experience with GolfNow G1 Point of Sale system. Participate in long range planning with the General Manager, the Superintendent, and all other departmental and City-wide stakeholders. Promote a positive image for the golf course, its programs, and interests. Must be available for weekday and weekend shifts to include holidays.Other related duties may be assigned.Required Education and ExperienceHigh school diploma or equivalent AND a Professional Golf Association of America Class A member in good standing AND a minimum of five years of related experience, with at least two of those years serving as a Head Golf Professional at a daily fee or semi-private golf course.ORSpecialized Associate’s Degree in Professional Golf Management from an accredited institution AND a minimum of five years of related experience, with at least two of those years serving as a Head Golf Professional at a daily fee or semi-private golf course.Required Certificate and LicensesValid Driver’s License from any state in the U.S. Ability to obtain a Texas driver’s license within 90 per state law.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience using GolfNow G1 Point of Sale cash handling system.Experience using Golf Genius tournament software.
Experience using MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).Bachelor’s degree in Professional Golf Management from an accredited institution.
