The Starter & Ranger plays a vital role in ensuring an exceptional golf experience for members and guests. This position manages the flow of play on the golf course, provides clear communication and guidance to players, and upholds club standards for pace, etiquette, and on-course service. The ideal candidate is friendly, confident, and able to balance hospitality with the responsibility of enforcing course policies.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
• Greet players at the first tee, verify tee times, and provide clear instructions regarding course conditions, policies, and pace-of-play expectations.
• Maintain an organized and efficient tee sheet flow, adjusting pairings or start times as needed to optimize course utilization.
• Monitor pace of play throughout the course, identifying delays and proactively assisting groups to maintain appropriate spacing.
• Politely and professionally address slow play, offering guidance or solutions to help groups get back on pace.
• Serve as an on-course ambassador, ensuring members and guests follow club rules, etiquette, and safety standards.
• Provide directional assistance, course information, and general support to players during their round.
• Communicate regularly with the golf shop staff regarding tee sheet updates, course flow issues, weather delays, or member concerns.
• Assist with on-course setup for tournaments and events, including signage, tee markers, and pace-of-play checkpoints.
• Support the golf operations team with additional outdoor duties as needed, including practice facility upkeep or cart coordination during peak times.
• Maintain a professional presence on the course, representing the club with courtesy, attentiveness, and sound judgment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous experience in golf operations, customer service, or hospitality is a plus.
• Must be at least 16 years of age; 18+ required to operate certain equipment.
• Valid driver’s license preferred.
• Ability to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact confidently with members and guests.
• Friendly, outgoing, and service‑oriented demeanor.
• Ability to remain calm and professional when addressing pace‑of‑play issues or enforcing club policies.
• Basic knowledge of golf etiquette, rules, and course flow strongly preferred.
• Comfortable working outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to walk, stand, and move around the course for long durations.

Pay: $9.00 - $10.00 per hour
