Internship Dates: January 11th – May 31st
The Colonial Life Charity Classic is accepting applications for the 2027 internship program. Our internships provide a unique opportunity to work as part of a team in a dynamic and fast-paced environment while gaining experience and exposure to professional tournament golf and event management. The Colonial Life Charity Classic will be held May 20-23, 2027, and is managed by Eventive Sports Properties, a Troon Company, which is a nationwide sports management company based in Birmingham, AL.
About the Colonial Life Charity Classic
The Colonial Life Charity Classic (CLCC) is an annual Korn Ferry Tour event held at The Woodcreek Club in Columbia, SC. Following a successful inaugural tournament in 2026, the event is poised for continued growth as it establishes itself as one of the Midlands’ signature annual sporting events.
Each year, the tournament welcomes professional golfers, corporate partners, and thousands of fans from across the region, generating meaningful economic impact while showcasing Columbia on a national stage. At the heart of the tournament is a commitment to the community. More than 350 volunteers help bring the Colonial Life Charity Classic to life each year, creating an unforgettable experience for players, spectators, sponsors, and guests alike.
The tournament proudly benefits United Way of the Midlands, whose mission is to break the cycle of poverty by investing in health, education, financial stability, and essential community resources.
Position Overview
Colonial Life Charity Classic interns will work alongside full-time staff on many aspects of the event. The ideal candidate will possess strong written and oral communication skills, the ability to work independently on multiple projects, and a willingness to go above and beyond for tournament stakeholders. Interns will be asked to take ownership of key projects and will gain strong professional experience.
This internship is an excellent opportunity for individuals who are interested in pursuing a career in sports management, event management, hospitality, business, marketing, or related field.
Key Responsibilities
Volunteer Program Assistance
- Assist with recruiting, registering, and communicating with tournament volunteers.
- Coordinate volunteer assignments, scheduling, credential distribution, and training materials.
- Support volunteer appreciation initiatives and recognition programs.
- Assist Volunteer Committee Chairs throughout tournament week to ensure a positive volunteer experience.
Staff Resources
- Assist in coordinating tournament staff resources, supplies, uniforms, credentials, meals, and operational materials.
- Maintain administrative records and organizational documents.
- Support internal communications and help prepare staff for tournament week.
- Assist with office operations and special administrative projects.
Tickets for Charity Program Assistance
- Assist with administration of the Tickets for Charity program.
- Coordinate ticket allocations with participating nonprofit organizations and community partners.
- Track ticket distribution and redemption.
- Support communications and logistics for participating organizations.
Honorary Observer Program
- Assist with administration of the Honorary Observer Program from registration through tournament execution.
- Coordinate participant communications, scheduling, credential fulfillment, and event logistics.
- Support on-course operations and ensure a first-class participant experience.
General Marketing
- Manage the creation of the tournament Spectator Guide, coordinating content, design, event information, partner assets, proofreading, and final production
- Assist with media materials, promotional initiatives, and event communications.
Fulfillment
- Coordinate the fulfillment and distribution of tournament tickets, parking passes, credentials, and hospitality wristbands.
- Prepare ticket packages for volunteers, community partners, vendors and special guests.
- Create and manage tournament QR codes and TOUR Leaderboard logos, ensuring branding, sizing, and placement are accurate and ready for use across scoreboards and tournament assets.
- Assist with the creation and management of tournament handbooks, including gathering and organizing content, updating event information, coordinating with internal teams, proofreading, formatting, and preparing materials for final production and distribution.
Promotions & Community Events
- Represent the tournament at community events, chamber functions, festivals, and partner activations.
- Assist with promotional appearances and grassroots marketing initiatives.
- Coordinate event materials, giveaways, and promotional displays.
- Help build awareness of the tournament throughout the Midlands.
Requirements
- This internship is intended for students seeking academic credit through their college or university.
- Must be 18+ years old
- Valid Drivers License
- Reliable vehicle
- Detail-oriented, able to handle multiple projects
- Experience with Microsoft Office and familiarity with Canva or Adobe Creative Suite is preferred.
- Flexibility, punctuality, and willingness to work evenings, long hours, and weekends
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
Internship Details
- Internship timeframe: January 11 – May 31, 2027
- Payment: Hourly
- Housing: Not provided
- Hours: starting at 10-20 hours per week, then increased hours immediately leading up to and during tournament week. Must be able to work extended and irregular hours including nights and weekends as event approaches and during event. Most work hours will be in a typical office environment at Colonial Life Charity Classic’s office. Working outside and on-site during event should be expected.
