1st Assistant

JOB SUMMARY Directs and participates in the maintenance of the golf course tees, greens, fairways, and cart paths. Supervises the maintenance and repair of motorized and other mechanical equipment and does related work as required. The 1st Assistant Golf Course Superintendent oversees 2nd and 3rd Assistant Superintendents and may serve in the Golf Course Superintendent’s capacity during his/her absence. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Perform proper maintenance and management procedures for greens, tees, fairways, lakes, roughs, traps and all other appropriate areas. Schedules work and supervises the employees in the use of equipment. Instructs equipment operators on the operation and care of mowers and other equipment. Supervises pesticide applications and/or operates and calibrates pesticide application equipment. Supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of pumps and in the maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems. Assists in personnel management and evaluation, employee safety training, personnel discipline and may modify the daily work schedule based on professional interpretation. Oversees the completion of work assignments by crew members and assists in the field decisions regarding job procedures, work standards and machinery use. Supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of pumps and in the maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems. Enforces safe working conditions on all job assignments and is responsible for instructing staff on proper equipment use and work methods. Reports golf course conditions to the Golf Course Superintendent. Stays current with new ideas, equipment, fertilizers, chemicals, etc., through publications, meeting and educational seminars.
