Position: Swim Coach (part-time) Incorporated in 1955 and encompassing more than 454 acres, the Mt. Prospect Park District provides outstanding recreational programs, events, parks, facilities and services. With seven primary facilities and 27 neighborhood parks, the Park District is an integral part of a thriving multi-generational community. District open space includes two outdoor pools, biking and walking paths, a dog park and sizable space for outdoor athletic programming. The District covers over 11 square miles and serves a region of over a quarter million residents in Mount Prospect and surrounding communities. The Mt. Prospect Park District is a proud recipient of the 2026 Illinois Parks and Recreation Association Exceptional Workplace Award!We are searching for part-time Swim Coaches to coach the Mt. Prospect Park District Sharks competitive swim team. The part-time Swim Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Swim Coach with the day-to-day operations of the Sharks Swim Team as well as managing and coaching their assigned age groups as directed by the Head Swim Coach.The PT Swim Coach must possess a minimum of one to two years of experience in competitive swimming. and be able to successfully pass a criminal background check. Minimum age of 18 preferred. High School diploma or GED certificate preferred. Swim coaching experience preferred; or, any equivalent combination of education, experience and training.The starting pay for the PT Swim Coach is $17.00 per hour. Plus, Park District employees receive facility privileges.Please see below for more details on the essential and secondary duties and job qualifications.Requirements GENERAL DESCRIPTION:Assist the Head Swim Coach with the day-to-day operations of the Sharks Swim Team. Manage and coach assigned age groups as directed by the Head Swim Coach.The Fall/Winter Sharks Swim Team season runs from the end of September through the first two weeks of March. The practice schedule for the 8 and Under and 9/10 age groups is as follows: M/W/F from 5p-7:30p, Sundays 3:45p-4:45p. Meets are 3-5 hours long on select Saturdays/Sundays throughout the season. The schedule will be provided a week prior to the start of the season. Subbing opportunities available for the 11 & Up age group whose practice times are M/W 7:30-9 pm, Thurs 7-9 pm & Sundays 5-7 pm. The exact Sunday schedule to be determined and will be communicated in the Season Kick-Off Email.ESSENTIAL DUTIES:Supervise swimmers during practices, meets and any Shark Swim Team events.Provide feedback to swimmers based on their meet results and distribute award ribbons at practices.Lead daily practices, utilizing workouts geared towards your specific swimmers’ abilities.Create line-ups with coaching staff for all swim meets.Help the head coach coordinate swim meet volunteers for home swim meets.Assist with the preparation, operation and cleanup of home swim meets.Communicate with the Head Swim Coach, Aquatics Manager, other Shark Swim Team coaches and Shark Swim Team parents and swimmers as needed.Perform the job safely and in compliance with District policies, procedures, work safety rules, and employee handbook.Prevent accidents by enforcing pool rules, and maintaining discipline.Recognize and respond to emergencies and assist with emergency procedures.Report any irregular discipline, safety or maintenance problems to the head coach.Attend required training and meetings.SECONDARY DUTIES:Maintain a clean and organized work environment.Additional functions as assigned which may be considered essential.All other duties as assigned by the Head Swim Coach, Aquatics Supervisor and Aquatics Manager, Superintendent of Recreation, Director of Recreation and/or the Executive Director. However, in an emergency, perform all other duties as required.QUALIFICATIONS:Must be at least 18 years old and must possess a High School diploma or GED certificate.
