Assistant Golf Professional

The Santa Lucia Preserve is a private, 20,000-acre nature preserve set in the Santa Lucia Highlands just a few miles from the coast in Carmel, California. The golf course was designed by Tom Fazio and opened for play in April of 2000. It has consistently enjoyed its standing as a Top 100 facility and is open to its members and invited guests on a year-round basis. In addition to world-class golf, members of The Preserve enjoy an equestrian center, fishing and swimming on a private lake, tennis and pickleball courts, a fitness center, dining and social events, and more than 100 miles of hiking trails. The Golf Club includes a double-sided practice range, short-game area, and two putting greens. The Preserve Golf Club is seeking an Assistant Golf Professional who will play an important role in all aspects of our golf operation, with a primary focus on overseeing, developing, and elevating our ladies golf program. This position will have significant ownership of ladies tournaments, weekly and monthly games, instruction, clinics, travel opportunities, special events, and overall player engagement. Minimum of 2 years of experience as an Assistant Golf Professional, ideally at a high-end private club.PGA Class A Professional or PGA Associate actively working toward Class A membership preferred.Experience developing or supporting ladies' golf programming strongly preferred.Demonstrated experience providing individual and group golf instruction.Experience with merchandising, retail buying, inventory management, or golf shop operations preferred.Familiarity with Golf Genius, Microsoft Office, Jonas, and club management software is a plus.Strong organizational skills with the ability to independently manage multiple events, programs, and deadlines.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Outgoing, engaging, and relationship-oriented personality with a genuine desire to interact with members.Ability to create an inclusive golf environment for players of different abilities and levels of experience.Take primary responsibility for the development, organization, communication, and execution of The Preserve's ladies' golf program.Develop an annual calendar of ladies golf activities that provides a balanced mix of competitive, instructional, recreational, and social opportunities.Organize and execute ladies tournaments, major events, weekly games, monthly games, team events, and other golf programming.Manage ladies tournament administration, including Golf Genius setup, registration, pairings, handicaps, scorecards, results, prizes, communications, and event-day execution.Develop creative formats and programming designed to increase participation and appeal to golfers of varying skill levels.Establish strong relationships with our ladies membership and actively solicit feedback regarding programming, instruction, events, and the overall golf experience.Provide private instruction, group instruction, ladies clinics, beginner programs, short-game programs, playing lessons, and other instructional opportunities.Develop a consistent calendar of clinics and instructional programs throughout the year.Assist newer golfers with becoming more comfortable with the game, course etiquette, pace of play, handicapping, tournament formats, and participation in club events.Organize and participate in ladies golf travel opportunities, interclub events, home-and-home matches, golf outings, and other off-property experiences when appropriate.Serve as a visible and approachable golf professional for the ladies membership and regularly play golf with members.Communicate upcoming ladies events and programming through email, tournament portals, calendars, Golf Genius, and other club communication platforms.Work closely with the Director of Golf and professional staff to continually evaluate and improve ladies golf participation and programming. Merchandising Responsibilities Play an active role in the overall merchandising operation with particular attention to ladies apparel, accessories, footwear, gifts, and lifestyle merchandise.Assist with merchandise buying, product selection, assortment planning, and seasonal purchasing.Develop relationships with vendors and identify new brands and products that fit The Preserve membership and brand.Maintain attractive, organized, and frequently refreshed golf shop displays.Monitor inventory levels, sell-through, product performance, and replenishment needs.Assist with receiving, pricing, tagging, inventory counts, transfers, special orders, and other merchandising administrative responsibilities.Coordinate merchandise offerings and special orders surrounding major ladies tournaments and club events.Assist members with special orders, apparel selections, gifts, club logo merchandise, and other retail needs.Contribute ideas that improve the Golf Shop's overall retail experience and merchandise performance. Additional Golf Professional Responsibilities Positively engage with all members and guests visiting The Preserve and consistently provide the highest level of service.Support the execution of all major club tournaments, member events, invitationals, and daily golf operations.Take the lead on assigned tournaments and events on a rotational basis.Assist with tee sheet management, daily play, practice facility operations, pace of play, and overall member experience.Play golf with members on a regular basis and participate in PGA chapter and section events when appropriate.Assist with outside service and caddie operations as needed, including training, service standards, and daily oversight.Provide club fitting and basic club repair services as needed.Participate in regular meetings to review financial reports, operational performance, member programming, professional goals, and department priorities.Assist with the development and management of operational and merchandising budgets.Support fellow golf professionals and other departments throughout the Club to provide a seamless member experience.Represent The Preserve Golf Club in a professional manner at all times, both on and off property.
