About the position
The Assistant in Training - Golf Maintenance (AIT) is a developing turfgrass professional who gains hands-on experience in all aspects of golf course maintenance while preparing for future leadership roles. Working closely with the Golf Course Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent, the AIT assists with staff supervision, maintenance operations, pesticide applications, irrigation and water management, and special projects. The role also involves collecting and analyzing agronomic data, supporting moisture management decisions, and helping maintain high-quality playing conditions through effective communication, leadership, and operational support. All duties are performed in accordance with department and Sunseeker Resort policies, practices and procedures.
Responsibilities
Assist with golf course maintenance and daily operations.Support irrigation, water management, and moisture monitoring programs.Perform pesticide applications and maintain accurate application records.Assist with fertilizer and agronomic program implementation.Supervise, train, and lead maintenance staff and small project crews.Operate and maintain mowing, application, and heavy equipment.Monitor course conditions and recommend program adjustments.Ensure safety, environmental compliance, and facility organization.Maintain required pesticide license and continuing education.Support the Golf Course Superintendent and Assistant Superintendents in delivering exceptional playing conditions.Perform other duties as assigned within the department.Requirements
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.Minimum of 2 years of experience in golf maintenance roles.Valid Florida Commercial Applicator License.Read and follow safety procedures and operating manuals.Communicate effectively in writing and verbally.Perform basic calculations and calibrate application equipment.Work safely in outdoor environments around equipment and chemicals.Meet the physical demands of the job, including lifting to 50 lbs and operating equipment.Ability to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays.Ability to function well under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and meet established deadlines.Must possess mature personal discretion and sound judgment.Professional appearance and demeanor, adhering to all grooming and uniform guidelines.Ability to take direction and collaborate in a team environment.Ability to work in a high energy and demanding environment.Excellent time management skills and attention to detail are a must.Good communication skills and the ability to work independently as well as with other team members.Able to work unsupervised for extensive periods, and to demonstrate good judgment when dealing with customers and peers.Strong self-motivation and organizational skills.Self-starter able to prioritize and handle various tasks simultaneously.Ability to adapt to changing priorities and unexpected situations.Benefits
