Landscape Manager Reports to the Golf Course Superintendent Position Overview Related Titles: Grounds Manager, Grounds Superintendent, Reports to: Golf Course Superintendent Supervises: Landscape/Grounds Crew, Gardeners, Irrigation Technicians, Seasonal Grounds Staff Classification: Full-Time, Exempt Education and/or Experience Bachelor's degree in Horticulture, Landscape Architecture, Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, or a related field preferred; an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in landscape management, groundskeeping, or horticulture, including at least two (2) years in a supervisory capacity Prior experience in a private club, resort, or luxury hospitality environment strongly preferred Demonstrated knowledge of plant material, turfgrass, irrigation systems, and seasonal color programs appropriate to the local climate Valid pesticide/herbicide applicator license, or ability to obtain one within 90 days of hire Job Knowledge/Core Competencies and Expectations Comprehensive knowledge of horticultural practices, including planting, pruning, fertilization, pest and disease management, and irrigation Strong understanding of budgeting, purchasing, and vendor/contractor management Ability to read and interpret landscape plans, site drawings, and design renderings Excellent leadership, scheduling, and staff development skills Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to interact professionally with Members, guests, and staff at all levels High standards of quality, attention to detail, and pride of ownership in the Club's appearance Proficiency with basic computer applications, including email, scheduling, and work order software Ability to remain calm and solutions-oriented under pressure, particularly during Member events and peak season Job Summary (Essential Functions) The Landscape Manager is responsible for the overall appearance, health, and maintenance of all grounds, gardens, and common areas of the Club, exclusive of the golf course playing surfaces. This position plans, schedules, and directs the daily activities of the landscape and grounds crew to ensure that entrances, clubhouse grounds, pool areas, tennis and pickleball courts, parking areas, and other Club property are maintained to the highest standard consistent with the Club's private, upscale image. The Landscape Manager develops and manages the grounds maintenance budget, coordinates with outside contractors and vendors, oversees seasonal color and planting programs, manages the irrigation system, and ensures compliance with all applicable safety and environmental regulations. This role works closely with the General Manager, Golf Course Superintendent, and other department heads to coordinate landscaping for Member events, tournaments, and special functions. Job Tasks/Duties Landscape Planning and Design Develops and implements an annual landscape plan, including seasonal color rotations, plant replacement, and long-term beautification projects Recommends improvements to landscape design, hardscape, and common areas to enhance the Club's aesthetic and Member experience Prepares and manages the annual grounds and landscape budget; tracks expenditures and reports variances Grounds Maintenance Operations Oversees mowing, edging, pruning, mulching, fertilization, and pest/disease control for all non-golf-course turf and plant material Manages the irrigation system, including scheduling, repairs, and water conservation practices Maintains clubhouse entrances, parking areas, pool decks, tennis/pickleball courts, and other common areas in immaculate condition Coordinates storm response, seasonal cleanup, and holiday or event decor installation as applicable Inspects grounds daily and addresses deficiencies promptly Staff Supervision and Training Recruits, hires, trains, schedules, and supervises landscape and grounds staff Conducts performance evaluations, provides coaching, and administers disciplinary action as needed Ensures staff are trained on proper equipment operation, chemical handling, and safety procedures Fosters a positive, professional team environment consistent with Club culture and Member expectations Budget and Vendor Management Solicits bids, negotiates contracts, and manages relationships with landscape contractors, nurseries, and equipment vendors Maintains inventory of equipment, tools, and materials; schedules preventive maintenance and repairs Monitors and controls departmental expenses to remain within the approved budget Safety and Compliance Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations regarding pesticide/herbicide application, chemical storage, and environmental protection Maintains accurate records of chemical applications, licenses, and safety training Enforces safe work practices and ensures proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) Coordinates with the General Manager on risk management and liability matters related to grounds operations Licenses and Special Requirements Valid state-issued pesticide/herbicide applicator license, or ability to obtain one within 90 days of hire Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record Certified Turfgrass Professional, Certified Landscape Professional, or similar industry certification preferred Must be available to work weekends, holidays, and extended hours during peak season and for Member events Physical Demands and Work Environment Regularly required to walk, stand, bend, kneel, and climb for extended periods across varied outdoor terrain Frequently required to lift and carry equipment, materials, and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds Exposure to outdoor weather conditions year-round, including heat, cold, rain, and sun Exposure to fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, and power equipment; must follow all safety protocols Ability to operate and safely handle landscape equipment, including mowers, trimmers, and utility vehicles Pay: $60,000.00 per year Benefits: 401(k) Dental insurance Employee discount Flexible spending account Health insurance Health savings account Life insurance Paid time off Tuition reimbursement Work Location: In person
