About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Senior Golf Course Superintendent to oversee the meticulous maintenance and agronomic health of a premier golf facility located in **Nashville, Tennessee, US**. This is a critical on-site role requiring a deep understanding of turfgrass management, irrigation systems, pest and disease control, and staff leadership. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the golf course is maintained to the highest standards, providing an exceptional playing experience for members and guests.
Key responsibilities include:
Developing and implementing comprehensive agronomic plans for turfgrass maintenance, including mowing, fertilization, aeration, and topdressing programs. Managing and optimizing all aspects of the irrigation system, including scheduling, repairs, and water conservation efforts. Overseeing the identification, prevention, and treatment of turf diseases, insect pests, and weed infestations using integrated pest management (IPM) principles. Supervising, training, and evaluating a team of groundskeepers and assistant superintendents, fostering a positive and productive work environment. Managing the departmental budget, including labor, equipment, supplies, and capital expenditures, ensuring cost-effectiveness. Maintaining detailed records of all maintenance activities, chemical applications, and budget expenditures. Ensuring compliance with all environmental regulations, safety standards, and pesticide application licensing requirements. Collaborating with golf professionals, club management, and the Greens Committee to meet course objectives and member expectations. Planning and executing course improvement projects, including drainage, bunker renovation, and tree management. Operating and maintaining a diverse fleet of golf course maintenance equipment, ensuring proper repair and upkeep. Staying abreast of the latest advancements in turfgrass science, technology, and sustainable maintenance practices. The ideal candidate will possess:
A Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Horticulture, Turfgrass Management, or a related field. A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in golf course management, with at least 3 years in a Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent role. GCSAA Class A certification is highly preferred. Extensive knowledge of cool-season and/or warm-season turfgrass species and their specific needs. Proficiency in irrigation system technologies (e.g., Toro Lynx, Rain Bird Cirrus) and water management strategies. Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Experience with budget management and financial planning. A valid pesticide applicator's license or the ability to obtain one promptly. A strong commitment to safety and environmental stewardship. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant agronomic software.
