About the Role
Apple Mountain Golf Club sits in the North Georgia mountains, in Habersham County, about ninety minutes from Atlanta. Eighteen holes, roughly 30,000 rounds a year, a food and beverage program that is only now getting started, and an events business that is close to nothing.
That last part is the job.
We own the club. Everything is coming in-house under us, with no management company in between, and you would report straight to ownership. No regional office, no brand standards manual, no committee.
WHAT THE JOB IS
• Build the event calendar from almost nothing. Golf outings, corporate days, tournaments, banquets, rehearsal dinners, receptions, holiday parties. We have the setting people will drive ninety minutes for and almost none of the business that should come with it.
• Weddings. A mountain course with the views, a new clubhouse in planning, and no wedding program to speak of. If you have built a venue calendar before (booked it, priced it, staffed it and delivered it on a Saturday), this is the part of this job you will care about most.
• Get food and beverage right. The program is rolling out now: menu, staffing, service, cost of goods, the beverage cart and the turn. It carries the events, and it is what people remember about a day here.
• Fill Monday through Thursday. Weekends are strong. Weekday middays are wide open, and closing that gap with leagues, corporate play, outings and events is worth more to this club than anything else on this page.
• Own the P&L. That is the job, and we will read the statement with you every month.
• Grow Charter memberships and keep the ones we have.
WHAT YOU WOULD NOT BE DOING
Running the golf day to day. An assistant general manager runs the pro shop, the cart barn and daily play. A course superintendent runs the course. We are adding a teaching professional. You set the direction and you own the number. You do not need to be able to fix somebody's swing.
There is also a residential community on the property. It has its own manager and its own team, it is run separately from the club, and it is not part of this job.
WHAT WE'RE PUTTING INTO IT
• A new cart fleet, and upgrades to the cart barn.
• Driving range enhancements, including new ball handling and dispensing equipment.
• A new clubhouse in planning, and the event space is the reason it matters. You would have a say in it.
• A food and beverage program rolling out now.
• Lightspeed for our tee sheet and point of sale, with a booking engine upgrade underway.
These are decisions we are making right now, not a list handed to you finished.
WHO THIS IS FOR
• You have run a club, a banquet operation, an event venue, or food and beverage at a property with more than one way to make money.
• You have built a calendar from nothing, or taken one from slow to full. Tell us the numbers: events booked, covers served, what the room did before you and after.
• You have owned a P&L and reported to owners who actually read it.
• You do not need to be a PGA professional for this seat. Our assistant general manager and our course superintendent cover the golf, and we are adding a teaching professional. If you are a golf person too, that is a bonus, not the bar.
• You want the version of this job where you change things. If what you want is an established program with the playbook already written, this is not that, and we would rather say so now than in your second month.
• Willingness to live in or near Clarkesville and be at the club.
COMPENSATION
$85,000–$100,000 base, depending on experience. A performance bonus tied to Charter membership initiations, league, outing and tournament revenue, and profit growth. On target, that puts total compensation around $125,000–$140,000. Health coverage and 401(k).
Beyond that, we would rather build the package around the right person than post a fixed list. Depending on fit, it can include a furnished apartment on site and continuing education.
TIMING
We are moving now, and we would like our general manager at the club as soon as we find the right one. We are not hiring to a date. If you are finishing out a season or a contract and cannot move right away, tell us. We would rather wait for the right operator than fill the seat on a calendar. One thing worth knowing either way: whoever takes this job helps hire their own team, so the earlier you are here, the more of that team is yours.
TO APPLY
Send your resume and a short note (not a cover letter, just a note) telling us the first event you would put on our calendar, and what you would do with our Monday through Thursday, to management@applemountainresortga.com. That's the whole application, and we read every one.
