About the Role
Job Summary
The Golf Course Ranger/Starter is responsible for overseeing the safe and efficient operations of the golf course. Under the direction of the Golf Course Manager or Superintendent, this role involves patrolling the course and driving the range, ensuring golfers adhere to the rules and regulations and proper play etiquette, and maintaining the proper pace of play. The Ranger/Starter also serves as a liaison between players, employees, and management, communicates feedback between golfers and staff, and supports overall course operations to provide an excellent experience for all guests.
Primary Responsibilities & Essential Functions
Informs players of rules and regulations pertaining to the golf course
Warns those players who are not following the rules and reports violations to the appropriate golf course staff
Checks daily play tickets, provides direction and assistance to golfers and ensures the smooth flow of play on the course
Drives golf cart and checks for pace of play, rules and regulations
Provides timely updates and communication regarding pace of play, status of tee times, course conditions and other pertinent information to the Golf Pro Shop
Maintains accurate tee time, customer records, and pace of play records using a computerized tee sheet program
Completes accident and incident reports as needed
Handles emergency situations and submits documentation to the course supervisor
Ensures the cleanliness of the driving range
Informs the Golf Professional or Assistant Golf Professional if supplies are low and need to be ordered
All other duties as assigned
Education and Experience
Sufficient education and literacy needed to identify and read product labels and to communicate with guests about job-related needs
Ability to read, write, speak, and communicate in basic English preferred
Previous experience in the golf industry preferredPrevious customer experience preferred

Detail oriented and thorough
Ability to perform consistent work to the highest of standards
Ability to remain discreet and respect the privacy of guests
Ability to interact with guests in a pleasant friendly way
Ability to drive a golf cart
Basic knowledge of golf operations
Ability to think critically and able to solve conflicts
Ability to work as part of a team effectively and efficientlyAbility to multi-task
Physical Demands
Ability to spend entire shift on feet and walking (sometimes running)
Bending, reaching, and stooping to retrieve times Ability to lift 50 lbs
Working Conditions
Predominantly outdoors
Exposure to the elements, including but not limited to, sun, wind, rain, and humidity
Exposure to extreme heat or cold depending on the season
Walking or driving golf cards on uneven terrain, hills, and course obstacles
Exposure to cleaning chemicals (proper PPE provided)
