Position Summary
Ripon Golf Club is seeking an experienced and motivated Golf Course Superintendent to oversee all aspects of golf course maintenance and grounds operations. The Superintendent will be responsible for maintaining exceptional playing conditions while managing personnel, budgets, equipment, agronomic programs, irrigation systems, and regulatory compliance. This position reports directly to club ownership and management and plays a key leadership role in the overall success of the facility.
Compensation: $80,000 – $90,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Plan, direct, and supervise all golf course maintenance operations, including turfgrass management, irrigation, landscaping, and facility grounds.
Develop and implement agronomic programs that promote healthy turf and superior playing conditions.
Manage and supervise maintenance staff, including hiring, training, scheduling, performance management, and employee development.
Prepare and manage annual operating and capital budgets.
Monitor and maintain irrigation systems to ensure efficient water management and compliance with local regulations.
Coordinate pesticide, fertilizer, and plant growth regulator applications in accordance with all federal, state, and local regulations.
Maintain accurate records related to chemical applications, water usage, labor, and equipment maintenance.
Work closely with club management to establish maintenance priorities and communicate course conditions.
Oversee equipment maintenance programs and coordinate repairs with mechanics and vendors as needed.
Ensure compliance with all workplace safety standards and environmental regulations.
Participate in long-term planning and capital improvement projects for the golf course.
Qualifications
Minimum of 3 years of golf course maintenance management experience, preferably in a Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent role.
Strong knowledge of turfgrass management, irrigation systems, agronomy, pest management, and golf course operations.
Proven leadership, communication, and team management skills.
Ability to prepare and manage budgets effectively.
Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
Proficiency with computer systems and golf course maintenance software is preferred.
Licensing and Certification Requirements
Must possess a current California Qualified Applicator Certificate (QAC) at the time of hire.
Must demonstrate the intent and ability to obtain a California Qualified Applicator License (QAL) within the initial 90-day probationary period.
Must register with the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) within the first 90 days of employment.
Valid California driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
Physical Requirements
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Ability to walk, stand, bend, and operate equipment for extended periods.
Availability to work weekends, holidays, and extended hours as needed to meet course maintenance demands.
