About the Role
Job Purpose and Objectives:
Supervises the maintenance and personnel of the City of Emporia's public golf course and the repair and maintenance of equipment.
Supervisory/Management Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for the supervision/leadership of employees, which includes making employment-related decisions and/or recommendations, and formally evaluating performance.

Essential Functions include the following.

Supervises, directs and evaluates assigned staff, addresses employee concerns and problems, directs work, counsels, disciplines and completes employee performance appraisals Maintains necessary departmental records including purchases, labor reports and daily time sheets Supervises the maintenance of putting greens, fairways, roughs, bunkers, grasses, trees and plants Supervises the planting of cultural practices involved in growing various turf, trees and ornamental plants Supervises the operation of an equipment service and repair shop Purchases supplies and maintains inventory Assists in the preparation of an annual budget Supervises and runs the watering system operation Evaluates condition of greens, fairways, and all facilities and makes necessary repairs and adjustments Mixes and applies chemicals Waters grounds and plants Mows fairways, greens and roughs Trims weeds, trees and shrubs Makes repairs to equipment Picks up trash, changes cups and trims shrubs Enforces and maintains compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and ordinances Performs other duties as assigned or deemed necessary Complies with all organizational and departmental policies and procedures Operates all job-related equipment, machinery, tools and other aids as required or needed Protects and maintains any confidential information, whether oral, written, or electronic Position Requirements and Qualifications:

Position Requirements:
1.
High school diploma or other equivalent required 2.
3-5 years experience as Superintendent Certifications / Licenses:
1.
Valid KS Driver's License 2.
Pesticide and chemical applicator license Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
1.
Knowledge of turf management including green, fairway and golf course maintenance 2.
Knowledge of soil conditions and requirements, of turf chemical applications and of equipment maintenance requirements 3.
Ability to operate all division equipment and understanding of equipment maintenance requirements 4.
Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize work 5.
Ability to fulfill all duties with minimal supervision and to work independently 6.
Assess situations rapidly and make logical decisions in a timely manner 7.
Analyze facts and exercise sound judgment 8.
Ability to effectively manage projects and multiple priorities simultaneously 9.
