About the Role
JOB SUMMARY Under the general direction of the Superintendent of Greens, or designee, performs semi-skilled maintenance and operational tasks related to the upkeep of the City of Stamford golf course. Work involves routine outdoor labor associated with maintaining the golf course grounds, including mowing, edging, sweeping, raking cutting cups, brushing greens and raking bunkers, and course watering. Physical demands vary from medium to heavy work and may require significant exertion depending on the tasks assigned.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Perform routine grounds maintenance including mowing, raking, shoveling, trimming shrubs and trees, and assisting with irrigation and other upkeep of the City golf course. Perform general manual labor related to golf course maintenance and operations. Apply pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers used in maintaining golf course grounds in accordance with established procedures and safety guidelines.
Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of departmental equipment. Operate a variety of maintenance equipment including tractors, mowers, water tanks, sprayer trucks, trailers, weed trimmers, chain saws, and other related tools and equipment. Provide basic customer service and respond to inquiries from patrons in person, by telephone, or via email.
Perform other related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER ATTRIBUTES Basic knowledge of grounds maintenance practices, including mowing, trimming, raking, and general landscape upkeep. Basic knowledge of the safe operation and maintenance of lawn care and groundskeeping equipment.
General understanding of the proper handling and application of pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers in accordance with safety guidelines and applicable regulations. Knowledge of workplace safety practices related to the use of tools, equipment, and skill in the operation of grounds maintenance equipment such as mowers, tractors, trimmers, and other related tools. Basic mechanical skills to perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on equipment.
Ability to safely handle tools, machinery, and materials used in golf course and grounds maintenance. Ability to provide courteous and professional customer service to golf course patrons and the public. Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods of time, including lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling heavy materials and equipment.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions and complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and humidity. Ability to work cooperatively with supervisors, coworkers, and members of the public.
Ability to maintain attention to detail while performing routine maintenance tasks to ensure the safety and quality of the golf course grounds. Ability to operate and maintain assigned equipment safely and efficiently. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, or general labor work.
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid driver's license.
