About the Role
Our client, an exclusive golf resort nestled in Raleigh, North Carolina, US , is actively seeking a distinguished Head Golf Course Superintendent. This pivotal role demands a seasoned professional with an exceptional understanding of turfgrass management, agronomy, and golf course maintenance operations. The ideal candidate will be passionate about preserving and enhancing the pristine condition of our championship golf course, ensuring an exceptional playing experience for our discerning members and guests. This is a hands-on leadership position requiring a blend of technical expertise, strategic planning, and effective team management.
Responsibilities:
Oversee all aspects of daily golf course maintenance, including mowing, irrigation, fertilization, pest and disease control, and bunker management. Develop and implement comprehensive agronomic plans to ensure optimal turf health, playability, and aesthetic appeal throughout the year. Manage and maintain all golf course facilities, including practice areas, club grounds, and cart paths. Supervise, train, and mentor a team of groundskeepers and mechanics, fostering a culture of excellence and safety. Develop and manage the annual golf course maintenance budget, ensuring cost-effective operations. Operate and maintain a fleet of golf course maintenance equipment, ensuring proper repair and upkeep. Monitor weather conditions and adjust maintenance practices accordingly to protect the course from potential damage. Stay current with the latest advancements in turfgrass science, irrigation technology, and sustainable maintenance practices. Ensure compliance with all environmental regulations and implement best practices for water conservation and Integrated Pest Management (IPM). Collaborate with the Golf Professional and Club Management to ensure the course meets the expectations of members and tournament play. Maintain detailed records of all maintenance activities, chemical applications, and budget expenditures. Promote a safe working environment for all staff and ensure adherence to safety protocols. Qualifications:
Degree or certification in Agronomy, Horticulture, Turfgrass Management, or a related field. Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in golf course management, with at least 3 years as a superintendent or assistant superintendent. Proven expertise in turfgrass physiology, soil science, and pest/disease identification and management. Strong knowledge of irrigation systems (e.g., Toro, Rain Bird) and water management techniques. Experience with budget development and management. Leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop staff. Valid driver's license and a strong understanding of safe equipment operation. Certification from the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) is highly desirable. Knowledge of environmental stewardship and sustainable practices. Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities. Ability to work long hours, including early mornings, weekends, and holidays, especially during peak season.
