GENERAL MANAGER – CLUB OPERATIONS & SALES
Position Overview
The General Manager is the senior on-site leader responsible for the overall success, growth, culture, and profitability of the Club.
This is a highly visible, hands-on leadership position with a strong emphasis on sales, membership growth, business development, member retention, and revenue . The General Manager will oversee all aspects of Club operations while actively building relationships, selling memberships, developing new revenue opportunities, and creating an exceptional experience for members and guests.
The successful candidate will operate with an ownership mentality and will be equally comfortable:
· Meeting prospective members and closing sales
· Building relationships with local businesses and community organizations
· Developing new revenue opportunities
· Leading and motivating employees
· Hosting Club events and tournaments
· Managing daily Club operations
· Tracking revenue, expenses, and profitability
· Creating a welcoming, energetic, country-club-style atmosphere

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Sales, Membership Growth & Business Development
The General Manager’s highest priorities will be growing membership, increasing revenue, and building long-term relationships.
The General Manager will:
· Take primary responsibility for achieving Club sales and revenue goals
· Actively recruit and sell new individual, family, and corporate memberships
· Develop and manage a consistent sales pipeline of prospective members and customers
· Conduct tours, demonstrations, introductory sessions, and membership presentations
· Follow up with prospects and convert inquiries into memberships and bookings
· Develop referral programs that encourage existing members to introduce new members
· Build relationships with local businesses, private clubs, residential communities, golf groups, and community organizations
· Develop corporate membership programs and group packages
· Create strategic partnerships that generate new customers and recurring revenue
· Promote simulator sessions, leagues, tournaments, instruction programs, events, and facility rentals
· Identify and develop new revenue opportunities
· Track sales activity, prospect follow-up, conversion rates, membership growth, and member retention
· Represent the Club at local business and community events
The General Manager should spend significant time personally interacting with prospective members, current members, business owners, community leaders, and potential partners.
Revenue Growth & New Business Opportunities
The General Manager will be expected to think beyond daily operations and continually look for ways to increase revenue and expand the Club’s reach.
Responsibilities include:
· Develop additional revenue streams for the Club
· Increase simulator bay utilization during both peak and non-peak hours
· Develop corporate memberships and corporate entertainment packages
· Market the Club for private events and facility rentals
· Create relationships with area private clubs and golf organizations
· Develop reciprocal, affiliate, or special membership programs where appropriate
· Grow league participation and tournament revenue
· Create sponsored events and promotional partnerships
· Develop group golf experiences for businesses, civic organizations, clubs, and social groups
· Create offseason and year-round programming
· Evaluate new products, services, and programs based on revenue and profitability potential
Club Leadership & Management
The General Manager will serve as the leader and public face of the Club.
Responsibilities include:
· Establish and maintain a professional, friendly, and welcoming Club culture
· Be highly visible and accessible to members and guests
· Build personal relationships with Club members
· Create an atmosphere that encourages members to visit frequently and invite guests
· Set high standards for hospitality, professionalism, cleanliness, and service
· Lead by example and maintain a strong presence during key operating hours and events
· Work closely with ownership on Club strategy, priorities, and growth initiatives
· Protect and strengthen the reputation and brand of the Club
Member Experience & Retention
Growing membership is important. Keeping members engaged and satisfied is equally important.
The General Manager will:
· Deliver an exceptional member and guest experience
· Personally welcome new members and help integrate them into the Club community
· Develop programs that encourage frequent member participation
· Maintain regular communication with members
· Identify and address member concerns quickly and professionally
· Track membership renewals and retention
· Develop member appreciation programs and special events
· Create a fun, social, and engaging Club environment
· Encourage members to participate in leagues, tournaments, events, and other Club activities
· Build a loyal membership community rather than simply operating a golf simulator facility
Daily Club Operations
The General Manager is responsible for the efficient and professional operation of the entire Club.
Responsibilities include:
· Oversee all daily Club operations
· Ensure golf simulator bays and technology are fully operational
· Maintain a high standard of cleanliness throughout the facility
· Oversee customer areas, refreshment areas, and event spaces
· Manage booking, scheduling, membership, and point-of-sale systems
· Coordinate equipment maintenance and technology support
· Manage vendor and service-provider relationships
· Ensure the Club is properly staffed during all operating hours
· Maintain Club policies, procedures, and service standards
· Ensure problems are identified and resolved quickly
Events, Leagues & Programming
Events and programming will be an important part of membership engagement and revenue growth.
The General Manager will:
· Organize and promote golf leagues
· Develop tournaments and competitive events
· Create member social events
· Coordinate corporate outings and private events
· Develop beginner and instructional programs
· Work with golf professionals and instructors on lessons, clinics, and special programs
· Create seasonal promotions and themed events
· Develop programming that attracts both serious golfers and social players
· Maximize Club activity throughout the year
Staff Leadership & Accountability
The General Manager will build and lead a professional, service-oriented team.
Responsibilities include:
· Recruit, hire, train, and supervise Club employees
· Establish clear performance and customer-service expectations
· Create employee schedules and manage payroll hours
· Conduct regular staff meetings
· Develop sales and service training for employees
· Hold employees accountable for performance and professionalism
· Create a positive, energetic, and team-oriented work environment
· Ensure all employees understand that every interaction is an opportunity to strengthen a member relationship or generate additional business
Financial & Business Management
The General Manager will be accountable for the financial performance of the Club.
Responsibilities include:
Work with ownership to establish annual revenue and profitability goals
Monitor sales, memberships, bookings, events, and other revenue sources
Manage operating expenses and control costs
Monitor budgets and profitability
Manage inventory and vendor purchasing
Review financial performance and operating results
Track key performance indicators, including:
o New memberships sold
o Membership renewals and retention
o Sales leads and conversion rates
o Simulator bay utilization
o Revenue per customer
o League and tournament participation
o Event and facility rental revenue
o Corporate memberships
o Overall revenue and profitability
Provide regular performance reports to ownership
Recommend strategies to improve revenue and operating performance
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
Experience
· Three or more years of experience in club management, golf operations, hospitality, sports entertainment, business development, sales management, or venue management
· Proven success in sales, membership development, or business development
· Experience managing a customer-facing business or team
· Experience with golf simulators, golf facilities, private clubs, country clubs, entertainment venues, or membership-based businesses is
· Experience creating and executing promotions, events, and local marketing programs is highly desirable
