Turf Internship 2027 (Extensive construction & Grow-In Experience)

The Country Club of Detroit is a HS Colt/CH Allison original design from 1912 that has played host to (2) US Amateur Championships, and successfully hosted the 2021 US Senior Amateur Championship. The most recent architectural imprint on the property today is with Renaissance Golf Design (Brian Slawnik as lead architect), who completed a large-scale renovation in 2010-2011 with complete reconstruction of all greens & tees, as well as re-grassing of fairways & renovating bunkers. A large-scale tree management program was initiated at this time as well. Their design has brought back many design parameters with a ground game golf course. There have been recent upgrades as well with green side bunker removals on 4 holes and the incorporation of 2+ acres of bentgrass bailouts for extended playability options. 2027 is a critical year for CCD as we will be embarking on 2 large projects; installation of a new irrigation system (Rain Bird IC), and complete redesign/rebuild of our par 3 course & practice facilities with Brian Slawnik & Renaissance Golf Design. Both of these projects will be kicking off the beginning of July 2027. These projects will offer ample additional learning opportunities with extensive construction/renovation, and the grow-in from this extensive construction. SHORT COURSE/PRACTICE FACILITIES PROJECT Time frames for duration of the Internship are variable, and flexible for each candidate. In this time here at CCD, our management will work in conjunction with Interns to prepare each individual for their next career step, and place them in leadership positions at courses around the country within our network, or, if available, full-time employment here at CCD. WE PRIDE OURSELVES ON PUSHING EACH INDIVIDUAL PAST THEIR COMFORT ZONE TO PREPARE THEM FOR THEIR NEXT CAREER STEP! WHAT SETS CCD APART? Core responsibilities/learning opportunities  for Turf Interns will revolve around: - Staff management - Interns will be responsible for an entire week of scheduling, delegation, and full management of our entire team in the middle of the season - Greens Committee Meeting Involvement - Interns will be expected to attend 1-2 Committee Meetings in their time at CCD to learn to the political/communication side of our operation - Daily golf course setup - Putting green management (Mowing, rolling, topdressing programs, cultivation/grooming methods, data tracking & management with USGA GS3 Ball & Moisture meters, etc.) - Mowing of greens, tees, fairways, approaches - Moisture management (Integration of USGA Moisture meter data tracking/management) and hand watering - Irrigation operation, troubleshooting, repair, as well as installation of a new irrigation system (HDPE Pipe, Rain Bird IC system) - Fertilizer and plant-protectant applications - Sprayer and spreader calibration - Bunker maintenance - Aeration, topdressing, and other cultural practices - Turfgrass establishment and recovery - Equipment operation and maintenance - Robotic mowing (Husqvarna, Kress) exposure, and integration into the strategies involved with optimizing these units - Involvement with agronomic planning/decision making strategies & discussions - Small project management & team leading - Construction project work - Bunker reconstructing - Drainage installation CCD HAS A LONG-STANDING TRADITION OF EXCELLENCE IN PREPARING INTERNS FOR THEIR NEXT STEP IN THEIR TURF MANAGEMENT CAREERS.
