About the Role
Summary/Objective
The 2nd Assistant Superintendent reports directly to the Golf Course Assistant Superintendent and assists with the day-to-day oversight of the maintenance and agronomic practices of the Bully Pulpit Golf Course and adjacent grounds.
Duties/Responsibilities
• Report golf course conditions to the Assistant Superintendent.
• Assist in all phases of golf course maintenance as directed, including mowing, aerification, verticutting, irrigation, fertilization, and pesticide application.
• Calibrate, operate, and document use of pesticide sprayers, fertilizers, and other chemical applications in alignment with the agronomic plan.
• Support the planning and execution of daily, weekly, monthly, and annual turf management schedules.
• Help oversee, train, schedule, and supervise seasonal grounds staff, ensuring proper task distribution, safe equipment operation, and adherence to procedures.
• Promote and enforce safety policies; assist with safety training, meetings, and documentation.
• Identify turfgrass diseases, weeds, and insects, and recommend appropriate treatment strategies.
• Assist with equipment maintenance and repair; help maintain inventory and accurate records.
• Contribute to developing short and long-range maintenance goals, budget preparation, and process improvements.
• Perform other related duties as assigned to support overall course operations.
Supervisory Responsibilities
• Trains seasonal golf course grounds staff.
• Assist with scheduling, organizing, and assigning projects to members of the seasonal golf course grounds team.
Work Environment
Work hours may include days and evenings on weekdays and weekends. Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. May be exposed to inclement weather, potentially dangerous chemicals, solvents, pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, misdirected golf balls, sharp and rapid equipment movement on a daily basis. Injury or sickness may result if safety policies and practices are not properly followed.

• Continuously in outdoor weather conditions including cold, heat and humidity for extended periods of time.
• Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
• Able to bend, stretch, push, pull, and move as needed to reach, clean and service machinery.
• Repetitive use of hands, arms, and fingers.
• Occasionally sitting, climbing, grasping, lifting, and carrying.
• Must be able to visually inspect machines and equipment.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position that regularly requires long hours and weekend work.
