Groundskeepers, under the supervision of the assistant, second assistant or foreman, perform routine manual labor involved in golf course maintenance: do semi-skilled grounds construction and maintenance work; operate small hand-powered equipment; and occasionally perform work involving large equipment such as tractors, loaders and mowing units.
Functions:
Ø Operates mowers and string trimmers in maintaining greens, approaches, tees, around trees, fence lines, banks and hillsides; edges cart paths; edges, rakes and maintains bunkers
Ø Maintains fuel and fluid levels for all types of equipment on a daily basis; reports equipment problems to equipment technician immediately
Ø Returns all equipment to the designated location at maintenance facility after washing; and helps clean maintenance building areas
Ø Helps in any project work as directed by supervisor
Ø Excavates and backfills ditches and trenches with hand tools; repairs and replaces pipe on the irrigation system
Ø May be asked to operate mowers or other equipment
Ø Performs other duties as directed by his/her supervisor
Employment standards:
Ø High school GED or equivalent necessary. Turf and Landscape training and knowledge a plus.
Ø Knowledge of methods and materials used in grounds and landscape area construction/maintenance work.
Ø Working knowledge of and ability to use hand and power tools as well as equipment.
Ø Ability to operate motorized equipment.
Ø Physical strength, stamina, agility and ability to walk a lot are mandatory.
Ø Must be able to lift objects up to 50 lbs..
Ø Ability to follow oral and written directions.
Ø Willing to work holidays and weekends.
Ø Possession of a valid driver’s license.
