About the Role
Our client is seeking a passionate and experienced Senior Golf Course Superintendent for a premier facility located in Washington, D.C. This executive-level position is responsible for the overall management and maintenance of the golf course, grounds, and related facilities, ensuring exceptional playing conditions and aesthetic appeal year-round. The Superintendent will oversee a team of groundskeepers, manage the maintenance budget, implement innovative agronomic practices, and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
Responsibilities: Develop and execute comprehensive agronomic plans for turfgrass management. Oversee daily course maintenance operations, including mowing, irrigation, fertilization, and pest control. Manage, train, and mentor a team of groundskeepers and assistant superintendents. Develop and manage the annual maintenance budget, controlling costs and optimizing resource allocation. Operate and maintain a wide range of turf equipment, ensuring it is in good working order. Implement water conservation strategies and manage irrigation systems effectively. Monitor course conditions to ensure optimal playability and player satisfaction. Stay current with the latest trends and technologies in turfgrass management and golf course maintenance. Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental regulations. Liaise with the Golf Professional, Club Manager, and members on course-related matters. Manage capital improvement projects related to course infrastructure and renovation. Qualifications: Degree in Agronomy, Horticulture, Turfgrass Management, or a related field. Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in golf course management. GCSAA Class A certification or eligibility is highly preferred. Proven leadership and team management skills. Strong knowledge of turfgrass physiology, soil science, entomology, and pathology. Experience with irrigation systems (e.g., Toro Lynx, Rain Bird). Proficiency in budget management and financial planning. Understanding of pesticide and fertilizer application best practices and regulations. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as dictated by weather and course play. Commitment to sustainable maintenance practices and environmental stewardship. This is a critical role for maintaining the reputation and quality of the golf experience. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of agronomy and a proven track record of delivering championship-level course conditions.
