Director of Aquatics

Job Summary
The Director of Aquatics is responsible for daily pool operations, programming, events, staffing, and pre/post-season duties. The primary focus of this position is ensuring the safety of all members, guests, and staff in and around the pool area. The ideal candidate for this position will have the ability to engage with children in a friendly manner, be hospitable to adults, command respect from the pool staff, and maintain professional relationships with fellow employees.
Throughout the summer the Aquatics Director will exhibit direct supervision over lifeguard scheduling, performance, and ongoing training. Development of processes, implementation of best practices, and enforcing a “safety first” culture amongst the lifeguards will be critical to the success of this position.
The Director of Aquatics will work with the head swim coach to operate a successful swim program to include swim team meets, practices, events, parties, and lessons. You are expected to maintain a fun, friendly, and organized program that keeps young swimmers engaged.
The Aquatics Director reports directly to the Assistant General Manager and works harmoniously with other department managers throughout the club. While some administrative work is expected, most of your time will be spent at the pool overseeing the duties described.

The Club’s golf course is a highly regarded William Flynn design and has played a part of many important golf events. The Club’s sports facilities include the 18-hole golf course, swimming pool, fitness center, skeet range, and a recently renovated all-weather racquet facility supporting tennis, paddle, and pickleball. The Club has multiple private party rooms and dining options, providing the membership with many opportunities for social interaction.
Education and Experience
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years of lifeguarding experience
Certified Pool Operator is preferred
Lifeguard Instructor certification preferred
Lifeguard Certification required

Core Responsibilities and Duties
Plans, promotes, and directs all pool activities including lessons, and open swimming.
Provides for swim lessons and group clinics for members and guests.
Develops and implements pool safety program.
Ensure that daily opening and closing duties are performed by the aquatics staff to ensure cleanliness, safety and organization of the pool facility and furniture.
Assists in organizing swim meets and related events.
Interprets and enforces swimming pool rules and regulations.
Ensure that all members sign in every time they use the pool and see that all guests are noted and charged accordingly.
Consults with the Assistant General Manager about swimming pool maintenance and capital needs.
Attends all staff, management, swimming committee and other applicable meetings.
Plans and oversees club pool events to promote the swim program, including Labor Day, July 4, and Memorial Day pool parties.
Assists in the development of short-and long-range plans for improvements to the pool facilities.
Interacts with Director of Catering and Special Events about food and beverage needs for events.
Maintains visible presence during peak times of activity.
Works with Club’s maintenance staff to assure proper water chemistry and chemical balance.
Purchases lifeguard uniforms
Requirements & Skills
Must be able to supervise participants and have safety awareness.
Proficient ability to work independently and with teams.
Must have valid First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications.
Must have lifeguard certification or the ability to obtain certification upon hire.
Must complete and pass a criminal background check prior to start of employment.
Professional, articulate, friendly, and punctual.
Possesses and exhibits the drive to provide exceptional Member service.
Full time flexible hours are required (able to work days, nights, weekends, holidays)
Proficient in computer skills including POS systems, Word, and Excel
Professional appearance appropriate for a premier Country Club
Work Environment & Physical Demands
This position is required to work on premises at the Club.
Ability to work independently while managing the workflow of multiple projects simultaneously.
Must be able to reach, bend, stoop, stand and lift up to 40 pounds.
Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time.
Moderate noise level in the work environment.
