About the Role
Our client, an exclusive luxury resort situated in a prime location, is seeking a seasoned and dynamic Director of Golf Operations to oversee all facets of their world-class golf facilities in San Francisco, California, US . This senior leadership role is responsible for ensuring an exceptional golf experience for members and guests, managing course operations, leading the golf staff, and driving profitability for the golf division. You will embody the resort's commitment to excellence and provide strategic direction to elevate the golf offering.
Key responsibilities include:
Overseeing the day-to-day operations of the golf course, practice facilities, and golf shop, ensuring immaculate conditions and adherence to brand standards. Developing and implementing strategic plans to enhance the member and guest golf experience, including programming, tournaments, and events. Managing all aspects of golf course maintenance, working closely with the Superintendent to ensure optimal turf health and playability. Leading, mentoring, and developing a high-performing team of golf professionals, including Assistant Golf Professionals, Starters, Marshals, and Retail Staff. Managing the golf budget, P&L statements, and financial performance of the golf operation, identifying opportunities for revenue growth and cost control. Overseeing the management of inventory, pricing, and merchandising within the golf shop to maximize sales and profitability. Developing and executing marketing and promotional strategies to attract new members and increase rounds played. Ensuring compliance with all club policies, safety regulations, and customer service standards. Building and maintaining strong relationships with members, guests, and the local golf community. Coordinating with other resort departments to ensure seamless integration of golf operations with overall guest services. Staying abreast of industry best practices, emerging trends in golf operations, and technological advancements.
Required qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, Golf Course Management, or a related field. A minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in golf operations management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role. PGA Class A Professional certification is highly desirable. Proven experience in managing all aspects of golf course operations, including agronomy oversight, club operations, and retail management. Demonstrated financial acumen with a strong understanding of budgeting, P&L management, and revenue generation strategies. Excellent leadership, team-building, and communication skills. A passion for golf and a commitment to delivering exceptional service in a luxury environment. Strong understanding of golf rules, etiquette, and tournament operations. Proficiency in golf management software (e.g., Jonas, GolfNow) and POS systems. Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as required by resort operations.
