About the Role
Job Summary: Under the supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent (GCS), and Golf Course Assistant Superintendent (GCAS), the Greenskeeper will assist with golf course preparation, mowing, renovations, water management, equipment operation, and all other tasks associated with maintaining the property. The Greenskeeper will perform manual labor and other routine maintenance tasks associated with maintaining the Wilmette Golf Club and all associated areas. This is a PT1-ACA position with individual HMO, Dental and Vision benefits. Additional benefits listed below
Supervisory Responsibilities:
• None
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
• Operates Park District vehicles and equipment
• Mowing of all grass areas of property including but not limited to greens, fairways, tees, rough and clubhouse areas, with some areas requiring manual labor
• General maintenance of all areas of the Wilmette Golf Club, facility grounds, and maintenance areas, including removal of lose debris and garbage, tree trimming, aerification, watering and course set up
• Perform gardening activities including planting and weeding, by hand or with equipment
• Golf course cleanup of leaves, branches, sticks and other debris
• Removal of snow and ice from pedestrian and maintenance compound areas if applicable
• Keep all related equipment and tools clean, maintained, and stored properly
• Keep equipment storage and shop areas neat, clean and organized
• Perform any other tasks related to course or equipment maintenance as assigned by direct supervisor
• Assists with the organization, storage, and lock up of all shop related areas and items at the end of each workday
• Communicate with other Park District staff, supervisors and team leaders as needed
• Actively contribute to the Park District's sustainability goals
• Actively uphold and contribute to the Wilmette Park District Comprehensive and Strategic Plan, including the Guiding Principles and Strategic Priorities
• Perform other duties as assigned
Safety Responsibilities:
• Actively support the safety program that will effectively control and reduce accidents
• Obey the practical safety rules, regulations, and procedures established by the Wilmette Park District safety program that are pertinent to the activities conducted by the department
• Become familiar with and follow the safety procedures of the Wilmette Park District, including, but not limited to, fire, severe weather, and evacuation procedures
• Promptly report all unsafe actions, practices, or conditions observed to the immediate supervisor, Human Resources, and Risk Manager
• Attend and participate in required safety trainings

Education and/or Experience:
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Ability to learn and/or understand a basic knowledge of the game of golf
Required Skills/Abilities (Technology, Mathematical, Language):

• Ability to follow oral and written directions and work in cooperation with fellow employees
• Ability to safely operate hand and power tools
• Follow detailed instructions for routine duties
• Must possess an active email address and have the ability to routinely check, respond, and communicate to Park District related messages
• Must possess a basic understanding and the use of computers, smartphones, tablets, etc. in order to routinely monitor their email, and any related Human Resource and payroll type functions
Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
• Regularly required to stand, walk, and sit
• Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, push, pull, carry and repeatedly stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
• Occasionally required to climb or balance
• Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
• Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
• Frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to vibration
• Required to work in all outdoor weather conditions
• The noise level of the work environment is usually loud
Required Certificates/Licenses/Registrations:
• Valid Illinois driver’s license
Hours:
• Hours to be set by Golf Course Superintendent
• Early morning and weekend hours to be expected
• Length of golf season dependent on weather
