Acumen Golf wants to hear from you!

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, and growth-oriented individual to join our agronomy team as an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent / Superintendent-in-Training.

This opportunity is ideal for an Assistant Superintendent who is developing their skills and preparing for the next level, as well as an emerging turf professional who is eager to learn, take on additional responsibility, and work toward becoming a Superintendent.

With three golf courses under Acumen Golf's management, this position offers a unique opportunity to learn, gain hands-on experience, and develop a broader understanding of golf course operations. You will report directly to the Director of Agronomy , providing an opportunity to learn from experienced leadership, gain exposure to agronomic decision-making, and develop the technical, operational, and leadership skills necessary to advance your career.

You don't have to be a Superintendent today to become one tomorrow. We're excited to invest in someone who is hungry to learn, willing to work hard, open to coaching, and motivated to build a future with Acumen Golf.

About Acumen Golf

Acumen Golf is committed to delivering quality golf experiences through strong golf course conditions, thoughtful agronomic practices, effective operations, and dedicated teams.

With three golf courses in our portfolio, Acumen Golf offers a dynamic environment where team members can learn from different playing conditions, maintenance programs, staffing structures, and operational challenges.

We believe great golf courses begin with great people. Our goal is to build a team of professionals who take pride in their work, support one another, continuously improve, and grow alongside the organization.

For the right candidate, Acumen Golf offers more than an assistant-level position. It offers the opportunity to build relationships with agronomy leadership, broaden your experience, develop your management style, and prepare for future Superintendent opportunities as your skills and readiness progress.

Job Description

The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent / Superintendent-in-Training will work closely with the Director of Agronomy and golf course leadership to support the daily maintenance, agronomic programs, staff management, and overall presentation of Acumen Golf's courses.

This position is designed for someone who wants to continue developing as a turfgrass professional while gaining the experience and confidence necessary to assume greater responsibility over time.

The successful candidate will participate in planning and executing maintenance programs, learn to make informed agronomic decisions, help lead maintenance teams, and gain experience with budgeting, labor management, irrigation, chemical applications, equipment coordination, and seasonal planning.

Depending on experience and readiness, responsibilities will be tailored to provide the appropriate balance of hands-on involvement, leadership experience, and professional development.

We understand that not every talented Assistant Superintendent is ready to step immediately into a Superintendent role. That's okay. We're looking for someone who recognizes where they want to go, is excited about what they still have to learn, and is ready to put in the work to get there.

Key Responsibilities

Agronomic Operations

- Assist with daily golf course maintenance operations to provide excellent playing conditions and consistent course presentation.

- Help develop and execute agronomic programs, including fertilization, cultivation, aeration, topdressing, pest management, and turfgrass health initiatives.

- Monitor turf conditions, identify emerging issues, and work with the Director of Agronomy and course leadership to implement appropriate solutions.

- Gain experience managing greens, tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers, and other maintained areas.

- Assist with irrigation scheduling, system troubleshooting, water management, and moisture monitoring.

- Learn to evaluate course conditions and make decisions that balance playability, turf health, resources, and long-term course quality.

Team Leadership and Personnel Development

- Assist in supervising, training, and developing golf course maintenance staff.

- Help coordinate daily assignments, schedules, and work priorities.

- Develop communication, delegation, coaching, and problem-solving skills.

- Lead by example by promoting teamwork, accountability, safety, and attention to detail.

- Gain experience managing labor, productivity, and daily operational challenges.

Planning, Budgeting, and Operations

- Assist with annual agronomic plans, operating budgets, labor planning, and purchasing.

- Learn to monitor expenses, manage inventory, and make cost-conscious operational decisions.

- Participate in equipment planning and coordinate with maintenance personnel to support operational readiness.

- Assist with recordkeeping, maintenance schedules, chemical and fertilizer records, and other operational documentation.

- Learn to plan for seasonal transitions, major cultural practices, tournaments, and special projects.

Professional Development and Cross-Course Learning

- Report directly to the Director of Agronomy and work toward clearly defined professional development goals.

- Participate in agronomic discussions, planning sessions, course evaluations, and operational reviews.

- Gain exposure to practices and challenges across Acumen Golf's three courses, as operational needs and scheduling allow.

- Seek opportunities to learn new techniques, improve efficiency, and strengthen technical knowledge.

- Take on increased responsibility as experience, performance, and readiness develop.

Qualifications

We recognize that candidates develop at different rates, and we are interested in both current Assistant Superintendents and emerging turfgrass professionals with strong potential.

Preferred qualifications include:

- Experience in golf course maintenance, turfgrass management, landscaping, or a related field.

- A degree, certificate, or relevant coursework in turfgrass management, agronomy, horticulture, or a related discipline is preferred.

- Working knowledge of golf course maintenance practices and turfgrass fundamentals.

- Interest in irrigation management, plant health, soil science, pest management, and agronomic decision-making.

- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

- The ability to lead by example, work effectively with a team, and build positive working relationships.

- A willingness to learn, accept feedback, and take ownership of professional development.

- A strong work ethic, attention to detail, and commitment to quality course conditions.

- Flexibility to work early mornings, weekends, holidays, and varied schedules as required by golf course operations.

- Relevant pesticide applicator licensing or the ability to obtain required licenses, as applicable.

A candidate who has served as an Assistant Superintendent but is not quite ready to take over a course independently is encouraged to apply. We are equally interested in someone who has developed a strong foundation in golf course maintenance and is ready for a structured opportunity to grow into greater responsibility.

Compensation

Acumen Golf will offer competitive compensation based on the candidate's experience, qualifications, current responsibilities, and development potential.

Compensation may reflect the distinction between an emerging Superintendent-in-Training candidate and an experienced Assistant Superintendent who is ready to assume broader operational responsibilities.

Final compensation will be discussed with qualified candidates based on their background and the scope of the position.

Why Join Acumen Golf?

Build the skills to become a Superintendent. This opportunity is designed for someone who wants to develop into a confident, capable leader and is looking for the right environment to make that happen.

- Direct access to agronomy leadership: Report directly to the Director of Agronomy and gain valuable insight into the decisions, planning, and leadership required to operate successful golf courses.

- Experience across three golf courses: Expand your knowledge by learning from different agronomic conditions, maintenance programs, teams, and operational needs.

- Increasing responsibility: Demonstrate your capabilities and earn opportunities to lead projects, oversee operations, and develop greater independence.

- Future advancement opportunities: Position yourself for future Golf Course Superintendent opportunities within Acumen Golf as your skills, experience, and readiness align with available opportunities.

- The chance to make a difference: Help improve course conditions, support team development, and contribute to the continued success of three golf courses.

The Opportunity: Grow Into Your Next Role

At Acumen Golf, we understand that becoming a successful Golf Course Superintendent takes more than knowing how to maintain turf. It requires sound judgment, leadership, communication, planning, financial awareness, and the confidence to make decisions that affect an entire golf course operation.

We want to find someone who is excited to develop those skills.

Maybe you're an Assistant Superintendent who has mastered many aspects of daily maintenance but wants more experience with budgeting, irrigation strategy, agronomic planning, or personnel management before taking the next step.

Maybe you're an emerging turf professional who has a strong foundation, a willingness to work hard, and a clear goal of becoming a Superintendent.

Either way, we want to help you get there.

Working directly with the Director of Agronomy, you will have the opportunity to learn what it takes to manage a golf course from a broader perspective. You will be encouraged to ask questions, contribute ideas, take on new challenges, and grow into leadership responsibilities as you demonstrate readiness.

Our goal is to help the right person develop into a future Golf Course Superintendent—not simply fill an assistant position.

As Acumen Golf continues to strengthen its operations across three golf courses, we are excited about the potential to develop talented professionals who can grow with our organization and contribute to its future.

Who We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who is:

- Excited about the future of their career in golf course management.

- Eager to learn from experienced agronomy leadership.

- Honest about what they know and motivated to improve what they don't.

- Ready to accept greater responsibility and be held accountable for results.

- Passionate about producing quality golf course conditions.

- Interested in becoming a well-rounded leader, not just a strong turfgrass technician.

- Motivated by the opportunity to grow with a company that manages three golf courses.

If you have ambition, curiosity, integrity, and a genuine desire to become a Superintendent, we encourage you to apply—even if you don't feel completely ready for that next step today.

How to Apply

Interested candidates should submit a resume outlining their golf course experience, education, qualifications, and career goals.

Please send resume and cover letters to supt@brandermill.cc Attn: Eddy Grattini (Director of Agronomy)

We would love to hear about the experience you've gained, the skills you want to develop, and where you see your career going over the next several years.
