Sailfish Point Golf Club is seeking a highly motivated Assistant Golf Professional who is serious about pursuing a long‑term career in the golf industry and ultimately becoming a Head Golf Professional.
Designed by Jack Nicklaus and opened in 1981, Sailfish Point Golf Club recently completed its second golf course renovation in 2021 and is widely regarded as one of the premier private golf communities in the state of Florida. Located directly on the Atlantic Ocean, Sailfish Point provides an exceptional golf experience supported by outstanding facilities, a highly engaged membership, and a culture centered around professionalism and service excellence.
The Club's primary season runs from October 15 through May 15.
Director of Golf Mike Demakos brings experience from prestigious clubs including Augusta National Golf Club, Bel-Air Country Club, East Hampton Golf Club, and 17 years at Nantucket Golf Club. He is highly committed to mentoring aspiring golf professionals and helping them advance into leadership roles within the industry.
Currently, at least twelve former staff members have gone on to become Head Golf Professionals at clubs such as Sebonack Golf Club, McArthur Golf Club, Floridian National Golf Club, Sage Valley Golf Club, Charlotte Country Club, and Cabot St. Lucia Golf Club.

Experience Required
Qualifications
Detailed knowledge of golf industry standards and golf shop operations
Strong work ethic with a willingness to be fully engaged in all aspects of the golf operation
Polished and professional demeanor in both appearance and communication
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail
Ability to multitask and perform efficiently in a fast‑paced environment
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, point‑of‑sale systems (Jonas), tee sheet software (Whoosh), and tournament management software (Golf Genius)
Previous experience in private club golf operations preferred
Previous merchandising, tournament operations, club fitting, and instructional experience preferred
Professional playing ability with a preferred USGA handicap of 5 or lower
Previous teaching and instructional experience totaling approximately 100 hours annually preferred
Experience/Education
Bachelor's degree
Active classification (Class "A" License) in the PGA of America or LPGA
Work Environment and Physical Demands
Position is both indoors and outdoors and requires physical stamina and endurance in varying temperatures and weather conditions
Frequent bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, walking, standing, and lifting throughout the day
Ability to regularly lift and transport up to 50 pounds
Ability to drive golf carts and operate golf operations equipment
Exposure to golf course conditions including vehicle fumes, insects, wildlife, noise, dirt, dust, pollen, pesticides, and cleaning chemicals
Requires manual dexterity to operate tools, equipment, and vehicles safely
Essential Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Director of Golf, the Assistant Golf Professional is responsible for assisting in the management and daily execution of golf operations, including golf shop operations, member services, tournament administration, instructional programming, and outside golf operations support.
This position plays an important role in maintaining Sailfish Point's high standards of professionalism, hospitality, and service excellence while helping create an exceptional experience for members and guests.
Responsibilities
Provide a welcoming, responsive, and service‑oriented environment for members and guests
Assist with tee sheet management, lesson scheduling, phone communication, and daily member requests
Conduct daily golf shop operations including merchandise sales, displays, inventory management, and special orders
Assist with merchandising, receiving, inventory controls, and vendor relations
Professionally and tactfully communicate and enforce Club policies and procedures
Assist with tournament operations, member events, outings, and instructional programs
Conduct or assist with junior golf programs, clinics, and player development initiatives
Perform club fittings and club repair services
Assist with starter and pace‑of‑play responsibilities as directed
Maintain a visible and engaged presence throughout the golf operation during daily business hours
Assist with daily opening and closing procedures and end‑of‑day point‑of‑sale reconciliation
Assist with inventory management, monthly counts, ordering, and stock organization
Help maintain the appearance, organization, and cleanliness of the golf shop, storage areas, practice facilities, and surrounding operational spaces
Work collaboratively with the Outside Services team to ensure smooth daily operations and exceptional service standards
Observe and follow all Club safety practices and protocols
Continuing professional development through PGA education, teaching opportunities, and industry training
Attend and participate in golf operations meetings and staff training sessions
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Golf
Projected Work Schedule
This position requires full‑time availability, including days, evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed. Average work hours are approximately 40‑50 hours per week. Additional workdays may be required during tournament weeks.
Any anticipated absence from the scheduled workweek must receive prior approval from the Director of Golf.
