About the Role
OverviewCaldera Golf Course is seeking a Temporary 2nd Assistant Superintendent to join our team for the remainder of the golf season. This is a seasonal position ideal for someone looking to gain hands-on experience in golf course maintenance and turf management while working alongside an experienced team in a stunning resort setting. The 2nd Assistant Superintendent is responsible for assisting in the implementation of all aspects of the daily operation including, but not limited to direct supervision of all greenkeepers and landscapers. They will provide motivation and leadership to ensure the successful operation of the golf course.
The 2nd Assistant Superintendent will assist in maintaining the AAA Four Diamond Standards. They will conduct themselves in manner which supports the Core Values of Sunriver Resort: Trust, Commitment and Open & Honest Communication. They shall strive to provide exceptional service to both internal and external guests at all times and for exemplifying the Sunriver Resort Culture as well as promoting Sunriver Resort as both the Destination and Employer of Choice!
ResponsibilitiesAssists in the implementation of all aspects of the daily operation, including, but not limited to, direct supervision of all greenkeepers and landscapersAssists in the daily operation and repair of the irrigation systemAssists in the training and operation of all pieces of equipment with safety being the highest of prioritiesParticipates in the implementation of the Hazardous Communications ProgramOperates any piece of equipment as requiredParticipates in all aspects of direct supervision for all mowers, trap maintenance people and landscapersAssists in proper record keepingSupervises crew during absence of Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent (includes weekends & holidays when applicable)Assists in implementation of projects and using the assigned crew to finish projects in a timely mannerProperly mows greens and teesOperates tractors, using specific attachments, to till, cultivate, and grade new turf areasAssists with landscaping; planting, cultivating, pruning, care of plants, shrubs and trees on golf courseResponsible for bunker maintenanceRepairs divots throughout courseRakes sand trapsComplies with all Sunriver Resort’s policies, procedures and safety regulationsMaintains a strong knowledge of emergency proceduresAttends appropriate resort, division and department meetingsProvides general resort information for guestsOffers warm and sincere welcome/farewell for all guests of Sunriver Resort including use of guest name when possible & good eye contact with each guestInteracts with resort staff in a professional manner, assisting other departments when necessaryAlways maintains a professional demeanor and attitudeCommunicates all pertinent information to the golf maintenance teamMaintains a professional appearance. Follows all Sunriver Resort dress code standardsRemains alert, courteous and helpful to the guests and colleagues at all timesPerforms other duties as assignedQualificationsHigh school education or equivalent requiredThree to five years of appropriate schooling, experience or training in golf course maintenance preferredStrong golf course background with experience in all phases of turf management program requiredExperience with and the ability to operate specialized golf course turf management equipment requiredMust have a valid Oregon drivers license and meet company driving standardsMust be able to read, write and speak EnglishExcellent equipment operation skillsMust have good mechanical understanding and abilityMust have excellent leadership skillsMust have interest and knowledge of the game of golfMust have strong irrigation background; repair, maintenance, installation, clocks, pumps, computer central, etc.Must have current or be willing to obtain a Commercial Pesticide Applicators license within 6 monthsMust have thorough understanding of the game of golf so as to understand the playability of the courseMust have excellent listening skillsMust have a passion for creating an exceptional experience for all guestsMust be able to work in a variety of weather conditions (rain, wind, snow, cold, sun & heat);Must be able to stand & walk throughout the day, including on uneven surfaces;Must be able to frequently lift, push, pull & carry up to 25 lbs, occasionally up to 50 lbs and very occasionally up to 75 lbs with assistance;Must be able to have frequent contact with fertilizers & pesticides;Must be able to perform simple grasping, squeezing, and repetitive hand & arm movements frequently;overhead reaching and fine manipulation occasionally.
