About the Role
SUMMARY
A person to perform mechanical diagnostic and repair of vehicles and equipment that is used to perform maintenance tasks at the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Good rapport with fellow employees and reflect a positive attitude.
• Complete all assignments requested of you.
• Must follow proper grooming and dress standards set forth by the Employee Handbook.
• Maintain open line of communication with your direct supervisor.
• This position involves manual labor which includes but not limited to shoveling, raking, and lifting objects.
• Safe and proper operation of equipment and tools to complete assigned tasks, (either manual or power)
• Ability to work with others as a team to achieve the common goal of assigned tasks
• Report to work on time and complete all scheduled shifts
• Attend monthly safety meetings and any pre-scheduled department meetings
• Assist other departments when requested
• Help train other employees on certain job tasks when necessary
• Must understand and abide by environmental practices of the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa
• Be a self starter and look for ways to improve upon your performance on a daily basis
• Perform any necessary snow removal duties assigned during the winter months
• Other duties as assigned
• Assist with equipment parts inventory control
• Perform routine preventive maintenance on equipment
• Repair any equip0ment that is either broken or malfunctioning
• The employee must provide their own personal tools necessary to get their work completed
• Some, but not all of the duties will be to change oil, as needed adjustments of mower cutting units, changing tires, repair safety devices, greasing equipment, etc. and many more
• Trouble shooting electrical systems on golf carts and mowing equipment
• Repairing brakes, door latches, pull cords, damaged bearings and seals
• Safe and proper operation of hand held manual and power tools to complete the job tasks such as reel grinder, bed knife grinder, cut off tools, power drills, hammers, pry bars, etc.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
This person must have previous experience with repair of golf course, grounds maintenance equipment, heavy equipment, (tractors, trucks, excavating equipment), small engines and or vehicles.
Any formal education with an emphasis in vehicle, small engines, or mowing equipment would be helpful.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
The ability to pick up new tasks with proper training and being able to complete job assignments without direct supervision for most of the day is essential.
Being polite to and thoughtful of others, (guests and co-workers) is to be a part of the employee’s responsibility on a daily basis.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES (If applicable)
The employee may be depended on to lead other employees to get assignments completed while working with co-workers as a team when direct supervision is unable to stay with the task to be completed.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Manual labor will be part of your daily job assignment. The ability to withstand extended hours of standing, bending, and working on your knees on hard surfaces will be necessary any day while working
Riding and testing the operation of power equipment may be necessary to complete your job task.
The ability to lift awkward objects weighing up to 60 pounds and sometimes more, from the ground to at least waist high will be required of you at certain times.
The equipment technician will be working with grease, oil and other petroleum based products that will get on your hands and clothing. You must understand that you will get dirty while at work.
TYPICAL MENTAL DEMANDS
The employee must be able to understand that last minute requests and changes to their assignments will occur periodically during his or her employment. The employee must be able to adapt to these changes to address the new priorities.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Working in outdoor conditions to the different seasons of Northern Michigan is a must. Cold, heat, dry, wet, wind and cloudy and sunny days.
The employee must be ready and willing to work in the very early morning. Standard start times will generally be between 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m.
The majority of the work will take place indoors in a usual equipment repair shop environment. Part of the day will be spent cleaning equipment, the shop and working on equipment outdoors or helping with other non equipment repair related job tasks outdoors and indoors.
Native American Preference will apply. Must be able to pass a background investigation and drug screen as a condition of employment. This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive.
