Job Title: Bartender
Position Overview:
The Bartender is responsible for preparing and serving drinks to members and guests at the country club’s bar, dining area, or event venues. This role requires an in-depth knowledge of beverage service, a strong focus on customer satisfaction, and an ability to maintain a polished and professional appearance. The bartender should be skilled at crafting both classic and contemporary cocktails, managing inventory, and maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the bar
Key Responsibilities:
Below are the general responsibilities and expectations for a Lead Server at UCC; this is not an exhaustive list and should be known that this can expand and include all other duties as assigned by the manager.
Customer Service:
Greet members and guests promptly and courteously
Offer personalized drink recommendations and ensure that all orders are accurately prepared
Always maintain a friendly and professional demeanor
Handle member complaints and resolve issues in a calm, professional manner
Beverage Preparation:
Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, including cocktails, beer, wine, and soft drinks
Follow recipes for classic and signature cocktails
Monitor guest consumption and ensure responsible alcohol service
Ensure the highest standards of quality in all beverages served
Bar Maintenance:
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the bar area, including cleaning glassware, tools, and countertops
Stock and replenish the bar with liquor, mixers, garnishes, and other supplies
Check bar inventory regularly and report low stock levels to management
Mop behind the bar
Vacuum restaurant floors as needed
Maintain a clean and sanitary work environment in compliance with health and safety regulations
Event Service:
Assist in setting up and serving drinks at private events, golf tournaments, banquets, or other country club functions
Provide high-level service during events, including crafting signature drinks or managing beverage stations
Work with event planners to ensure the beverage service matches the event’s needs and expectations
Cash Handling and Transactions:
Accurately process orders and payments using the club’s POS system
Handle cash, credit card transactions, and tips in a secure and responsible manner
Reconcile cash drawers and ensure that all transactions are recorded accurately
Health and Safety Compliance:
Adhere to all liquor laws, health codes, and country club policies
Check IDs to ensure that all guests consuming alcohol are of legal age
Ensure proper hygiene and cleanliness in accordance with club standards
Team Collaboration:
Work closely with other bartenders, servers, and kitchen staff to ensure smooth operation during busy periods
Assist in training new bar staff or interns as needed
Support other team members during peak hours or high-demand events
Qualifications:
Education:
o High school diploma or equivalent is preferred; bartending certification or mixology training is a plus
Experience:
o Previous bartending and/or mixologist experience, preferably in an upscale or country club environment
o Previous experience in food service, preferably in an upscale or country club environment
Skills:
Expertise in classic and contemporary cocktails, beer, and wine knowledge
Strong customer service and communication skills
Ability to multitask and stay organized during busy times
Knowledge of alcohol laws and responsible service
Familiarity with POS systems and cash handling procedures
4. Physical Requirements:
o Ability to stand for extended periods
o Ability to lift and carry heavy items, including kegs, boxes, and supplies
o Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, particularly during peak hours
5. Personal Presentation:
o Clean uniform and appropriate pants / skirts as determined by the management staff and season
o Arrive to ready to work with hair pulled back and out of the face
o Minimal and tasteful makeup
o Minimal jewelry
6. Working Conditions:
o The bartender will work in an indoor bar or event space, and occasionally outdoors (during events)
o The job requires working during evenings, weekends, and holidays, especially for country club events or gatherings
7. Desirable Traits:
o Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact with members and guests in a courteous and professional manner
o Presents cool under pressure and able to make
o Attention to detail and the ability to maintain high standards of service
o A passion for mixology and a genuine interest in hospitality
