Golf Course Superintendent Location: Butler, Pennsylvania Compensation: $55,000 -$70,000 annually (based on education and/or experience) + Health Care Benefits Employment Type: Full-Time Reports To: Golf Course Ownership About Us: We are a family-owned public golf course located in Butler, Pennsylvania, committed to providing excellent playing conditions and an exceptional golfing experience for our customers. We are seeking a motivated and hands-on Golf Course Superintendent to lead all aspects of golf course maintenance and grounds operations. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent turfgrass graduate, an experienced Assistant Superintendent looking to advance into a superintendent role, or for an established superintendent seeking a stable, family-oriented work environment. Position Summary: The Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for the overall maintenance, appearance, and playability of the golf course. This position oversees turfgrass management, irrigation systems, equipment maintenance, labor management, budgeting, and pesticide applications. The Superintendent works closely with ownership to establish maintenance priorities and ensure the course remains in outstanding condition throughout the season. Key Responsibilities: Course Maintenance & Turf Management • Direct and supervise all golf course and grounds maintenance activities. • Maintain high-quality playing conditions for greens, tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers, and landscaped areas. • Develop and implement seasonal maintenance programs. • Monitor turf health and proactively address disease, pest, and environmental issues. Irrigation Management • Operate, monitor, and maintain the golf course irrigation system. • Manage watering schedules to maximize turf quality and conserve resources. • Troubleshoot and coordinate repairs to irrigation components. Equipment & Facility Maintenance • Oversee maintenance and repair of golf course equipment and maintenance facilities. • Coordinate preventive maintenance programs. • Manage equipment inventory and replacement planning. Staff Leadership • Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise grounds maintenance staff. • Establish daily work assignments and productivity goals. • Promote a positive, safe, and team-oriented work environment. Budget & Inventory Management • Develop and manage the annual maintenance budget. • Monitor labor costs, materials, chemical usage, and equipment expenses. • Purchase supplies, chemicals, seed, fertilizer, and other maintenance materials. Regulatory Compliance & Safety • Maintain compliance with all state and local regulations regarding pesticide applications and environmental practices. • Ensure safe handling and storage of chemicals and equipment. • Implement and enforce workplace safety procedures. Qualifications Required • Pennsylvania Pesticide Applicator Certification (or ability to obtain immediately upon hire). • Knowledge of turfgrass management practices, irrigation systems, and golf course maintenance operations. • Valid driver's license. • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills. Preferred • Degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or related field. • Previous experience as an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent. • Experience supervising maintenance crews. • Familiarity with golf course budgeting and equipment management.
