About the Role
Location: Gaston OverviewThe Valley Golf Couse (formerly Hidden Valley) is a public golf course owned by the Lexington County Recreation and Aging Commission. The 18-hole course, which sits on 187 acres about 30 minutes southwest of downtown Columbia South Carolina, has operated as a private club since 1964. The course is currently being completely renovated along with a redesign of about 70% of the course. The Commission is a governmental Special Purpose District that provides a diverse range of recreation programs along with providing Senior Services in Lexington County.Position OverviewThe General Manager (GM) is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of The Valley, ensuring an exceptional experience for guests while fostering a positive and productive work environment for staff. This leadership position requires a dynamic, organized, and proactive professional with a passion for the game of golf, strong leadership and business management skills, and a commitment to delivering outstanding customer service.The GM will provide strategic and operational leadership across all aspects of the facility, including staff supervision, financial performance, customer service, facility maintenance, and day-to-day operations. The position is also responsible for driving revenue growth through events, leagues, and retail sales while maintaining high standards of service, safety, and course presentation.Experience RequiredBachelor's degree preferred.Experience with computerized point-of-sale (POS) and tee-time management systems.Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.Demonstrated leadership and team development experience.Strong business acumen with experience managing budgets, expenses, payroll, and revenue initiativesProven ability to mentor, motivate, and develop staff.Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail and operational execution.Essential ResponsibilitiesLead and oversee all golf operations to ensure exceptional guest experiences.Manage daily golf shop operations, tee sheet administration, and pace-of-play initiatives.Coordinate tournaments and outside outings.Supervise and develop golf operations staff, golf shop associates, starters, rangers, and outside personnel.Manage merchandise operations, including purchasing, inventory control, merchandising, and monthly inventory reconciliation.Oversee cart fleet managementEnsure compliance with USGA Rules of Golf and club policiesCreate and maintain a service-oriented atmosphere that promotes the game of golf.Assist in the preparation, management, and monitoring of annual and monthly budgets.Control expenses and payroll in accordance with budgetary objectives while maximizing revenue opportunities.Assure operational compliance with local, state, and federal laws.Perform additional duties as assignedBenefitsSouth Carolina State RetirementHeath and dental insuranceLife insuranceOptional 401K and 457 plansAccrued annual and sick leave
