About the Role
Moorhead Country Club, in Moorhead, MN, is looking for an energetic and motivated employee to join our management team as the Assistant Golf Course Superintendent. This is a full-time, year-round position.
Moorhead Country Club is a private, 18-hole championship golf course that is home to the Red River Amateur Golf Tournament. MCC was established in 1937 and is a classic style golf course with big mature trees nestled on the banks of the Red River in the metropolitan area of Fargo/Moorhead. A large flood mitigation project was completed in 2015 creating a new and exciting back nine while eliminating any possibility of flooding. The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent will work closely with the Superintendent on all golf course related decisions, where your input and ideas are valued and encouraged
Job Overview
This leadership role involves overseeing the maintenance and aesthetic quality of the golf course, ensuring optimal turf health, landscape beauty, and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will possess strong horticultural and agronomic knowledge, supervisory skills, and a passion for maintaining a pristine golf environment. This position offers an opportunity to lead a dedicated team in delivering an exceptional golfing experience through expert landscape management and maintenance.
Responsibilities
• Assist in planning, coordinating, and executing all aspects of golf course maintenance, including turf care, landscaping, and irrigation systems.
• Supervise and mentor maintenance staff to ensure high-quality work and adherence to safety standards. Strong staff leadership including scheduling, training, supervision, and development of the full-time and seasonal staff
• Leads grounds crew in projects throughout the golf course.
• Maintain and troubleshoot irrigation systems to ensure proper water distribution and turf health. Toro irrigation system with VP Satellites and Lynx irrigation software
• Proper calibration, mixing, and application of chemicals and fertilizer.
• Effective moisture management of turfgrass with the use of a soil moisture meter.
• Disease scouting, diagnosis and management
• Daily inspections of the golf course to identify areas needing attention or repair.
• Tree trimming and removal.
• Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and safety protocols during all maintenance activities.
• Collaborate with management on scheduling, equipment maintenance, and resource allocation for efficient operations.
• Participate in club capital purchases and budgeting.
• Winter work consists of snow plowing, tree trimming, and help with equipment maintenance and repairs.
• Other miscellaneous duties.
Requirements
• Certificate, Two, or four-year degree in Turf Management, Horticulture, Plant Sciences, Agronomy or closely related field.
• Previous experience as an Assistant Golf Couse Superintendent, Second Assistant, or years of relevant golf course experience.
• Must possess or have the ability to obtain Minnesota Department of Agriculture non-commercial pesticide applicators license category A & E within 60 days of hire.
• Strong work ethic, highly organized, positive attitude, motivated, energetic leader, with a high attention to detail.
• Someone who wants to learn and grow within the industry, and has the enthusiasm to ask questions.
• Strong communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license, with clean driving record.
• Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail in maintaining course standards.
• Physical ability to perform outdoor work in various weather conditions; familiarity with safety procedures is essential.
