Northamptonshire County Golf Club is recognised as one of the finest inland heathland courses in the Midlands and is currently ranked within the Top 100 golf courses in England.
Originally designed by the renowned golf course architect Harry Colt, the Club has built a strong reputation for the quality of its playing surfaces, year‑round presentation and continued investment in the golf course. Northamptonshire County has proudly hosted Regional Qualifying for The Open Championship and, in 2026, will host the prestigious Carris Trophy.
Significant recent projects have included heathland regeneration, woodland management, a new irrigation system, a 4,000m² short game area and ongoing investment in machinery and infrastructure.
We are now seeking to recruit a Deputy Course Manager to assist in the continued development and presentation of the golf course.
Working closely with the Course Manager, the successful candidate will play a key role in the day‑to‑day management of the course, staff supervision and the continued progression of course standards.
Main Responsibilities
Assist with the planning and implementation of all daily golf course maintenance operations
Lead and supervise the greenkeeping team in the absence of the Course Manager
Help maintain the Club’s high presentation standards across all areas of the course
Assist in planning and delivering winter projects, renovation works and course improvements
Carry out and oversee operations in line with Health & Safety requirements and safe working practices
Assist with irrigation management, course set up and machinery operations
Support and encourage the continued development of team members
Maintain accurate records relating to course maintenance, machinery and spraying operations where required
Take an active role in the continued environmental and sustainability objectives of the Club
The Ideal Candidate Will
Be highly motivated with a strong work ethic and positive attitude
Have excellent communication and leadership skills
Be organised and capable of managing and prioritising workloads effectively
Have strong practical greenkeeping knowledge and attention to detail
Be capable of leading by example and motivating a team
Have a good understanding of modern turf management practices
Have experience working on high quality golf courses, ideally heathland or links style environments
Have knowledge of irrigation systems and water management practices
Be enthusiastic about continuing professional development and industry progression
Have a passion for golf course presentation and improvement
Essential Qualifications
NVQ Level 3 in Sports Turf Management or equivalent
PA1, PA2 and PA6 spraying certificate
Full UK driving licence
A minimum of 5 years’ experience within the golf course industry, ideally including experience at Deputy or First Assistant level
Experience working at a high‑quality golf facility with a strong focus on presentation standards
Desirable Qualifications
Chainsaw certificates (CS30/31 or equivalent)
First Aid qualification
Experience operating and maintaining modern turf machinery
Irrigation experience
