About the Role
Position Overview:
Assists the Director of Golf Maintenance in managing all phases of golf course maintenance. Oversees and participates in all
fertility and plant protectant programs, irrigation installation and repairs. Manages line employees in the Golf Course Maintenance department. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the crew. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Assists with planning, scheduling, instructing, training, and directing crew in the performance of golf course maintenance procedures and job responsibilities.
• Performs checks of processes throughout the day.
• Oversees chemical and fertilizer applications and assists as necessary.
• Advises Director of Agronomy of course conditions.
• Oversees cleanup and storage of tools and equipment at the end of the shift.
• Advises the Director of Agronomy of all performance issues and enforces performance standards.
• Assumes additional management responsibilities as needed in the absence of the Director of Agronomy.
• Communicates with members, co-workers, management and the general public in a courteous and professional manner.
• Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.
• Exhibits and maintains a professional demeanor to reflect a positive image of the Club.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Requires knowledge of agronomy and related practices.
• Requires knowledge of the game of golf.
• Must be able to supervise work effectively.
• Must be able to lift to 50 pounds.
• Must be able to work in the heat for extended periods of time.
• Must have good customer relations skills.
• Previous club experience required.
• Ability to interact professionally and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, co-workers and members.
• Must be able to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
Credentials and Experience
• Associate degree (A.S.) in Agronomy or Horticulture plus four to ten years related experience and/or equivalent combination for related education and experience.
• Good oral and written communication skills. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions, common inquiries and complaints from groups of managers, clients, members, and the general public.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
• Must be PC proficient (Word and Excel) and the ability to learn to operate the Irrigation System software.
• Acquire State of Florida Commercial Applicator license in Ornamental and Turf within six months of employment.
• GCSAA and Treasure Coast GCSA membership.
• Valid Florida driver’s license and a good driving record.
