Golf Business Network, in partnership with Talbot Country Club, is seeking to hire its next Assistant Superintendent.

Located in Easton, MD, and founded in 1910, Talbot Country Club is the fourth-oldest country club in Maryland and the premier private club on the Eastern Shore. The family-oriented club’s championship 18 has hosted the Maryland State Open and other MSGA championships, and it’s a true transition-zone course with Poa/bentgrass greens and bermudagrass fairways and tees across about 160 acres. Talbot is in the middle of a long-range master plan with architect Joel Weiman, and what sets it apart is that the maintenance team handles 80% or more of the construction in-house, out of a brand-new shop.

Talbot is seeking an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to join Superintendent Derek Haley, a hands-on leader with more than a decade at the club. You’ll work with a long-tenured fellow assistant, a full-time equipment manager and a crew of about 18, most of them year-round. Crew management is the heart of the role. You’ll run the morning job board, organize labor around a schedule that changes daily, and hold a largely Spanish-speaking crew to a high standard. You’ll also share in moisture management, irrigation, cool- and warm-season spray programs, and tournament setup.

You’ll get experience few assistants do. You’ll work directly with the architect on shaping, drainage and grow-in, and you’ll see a full irrigation replacement through from design review and bidding to construction. You’ll also learn the budget process and sit in on greens committee meetings.
