Assistant Superintendent

Transit Valley Country Club is an 18 hole course located in a suburb of Buffalo, NY. A family club with emphasis on work-life balance at the turf care facility while still improving and providing excellent conditions for our membership. We had a new irrigation installed in 2023 and are currently implementing Master Plan renovations in-house. A terrific opportunity to gain experience, grow, and advance in golf course maintenance. We have had 9 assistants in 4 years either move up or become a Golf course Superintendent. Great Mentor program in-house with multiple retired superintendents and assistants on staff each season. Responsibilities 1) Assist in planning, organizing, and supervising the maintenance of the golf course, including greens, tees, and bunkers. 2) Perform routine maintenance tasks such as mowing, watering, fertilizing, aerating turf. 3) Supervise and participate in pesticide and fertilizer applications, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations. 4) Assist in managing irrigation systems, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring proper water management practices. 5) Oversee the maintenance and repair of equipment, enduring proper functioning safety standards. 6) Train and supervise a team of grounds maintenance staff, providing guidance and support as needed. 7) Assist in developing and implementing turf management programs to enhance playing conditions and overall course aesthetics. 8) Monitor health and pest/disease activity, implementing appropriate control measures, as needed. 9) Collaborate with Golf Course Superintendent to develop and mange operating budgets, track expenses, and identify cost-savings opportunities. 10) Ensure compliance with all relevant local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to golf course management and environmental stewardship. Qualifications 2-4 year degree in Turf grass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or related field preferred. Minimum 2-3 years of experience in golf course maintenance practices, with previous supervisory experience preferred. Strong knowledge of turfgrass management practices, irrigation systems, and equipment operation. Pesticide applicator's license or ability to obtain one within 6 months time. Excellent leadership, communication, and people skills. Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed. strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities. Physical stamina and ability to perform manual labor in various weather conditions.
