About the Role
Giant Oak Golf Club is seeking a motivated Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to join our agronomy team. If you’re a hands-on turf pro who takes pride in details—clean mowing, smart moisture management, and doing the fundamentals every day—we want to meet you.
Giant Oak is a 27-hole golf facility located in Temperance, Michigan (SE Michigan / Toledo, Ohio area). We have been a family-owned and operated business since 1969.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with daily golf course setup, scheduling, mowing, and maintenance duties; train/coach staff in golf course maintenance practices
- Participate in agronomic programs for greens, tees, fairways, and rough
- Assist with fertilizer, plant protectant, and cultural practice applications
- Monitor turf conditions and communicate observations/recommendations
- Assist with irrigation system operation, troubleshooting, and repair
- Train and mentor seasonal and full-time employees
- Assist with project planning, execution, and documentation
- Support tournament preparation and special events
- Promote and enforce safety and environmental practices
- Keep equipment standards high (cleanliness, safety checks, reporting issues early)
- Maintain strong communication with the superintendent/owner and maintenance crew
- This is a 12-month position. During winter months, the assistant helps with equipment maintenance, outside projects (ex: tree removal), and maintenance projects in the clubhouse
- 1–3 years of golf course maintenance experience preferred (we will consider standout spray techs/crew leaders/irrigation techs ready to step up)
- Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills
- High attention to detail and strong work ethic
- Strong fundamentals: mowing standards, cup cutting, moisture management, topdressing, rolling, etc.
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and operate typical turf equipment safely
Special Requirements
- Michigan pesticide applicator license (or ability to obtain within 90 days). If you’re the right fit, we will support you in obtaining and maintaining your license
- Ability to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays
